Presidential rhetoric should inspire us

Congress decides.

The criteria is what they’re debating. Should immigration be criteria-less?

No- but we shouldn't pick and choose which countries.

I'm amazed at how far down you guys will go to defend this. There was a dude on one of the panels last night trying to defend the Norway part of the comment, talking about how the net income of Norwegians was $97K, and how those are the kinds of folks we should want here.

What profound ignorance. For starters, it's not usually the $97Kers that are scrambling to get here. But beyond that, it ignores the massive contributions from every poor immigrant who ever came here w/ a dream & a work ethic.

Frankly, the whole conversation right now is disgusting. Trump once again appeals to (and brings out) the worst of us.

We should applaud this moment.

The bar WILL be set higher .. because of this moment.

Racism WILL be more aggressively challenged .. because of this moment.

Immigration WILL be addressed more sanely ,, because of this moment.

The Republican Party HAS been conclusively defined as the party of racists because of the moment.

Applaud it. :hand:
It is not racism to have a points based immigration system. Unless you want to call Canada, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand racist.

I think this is a good portrait of how each side views America. The democrats view America as a force to benefit the world first. So we have to take in everyone from oppressed countries to give them a better life here even if that is not in the interests of americans.

Republicans view America as a force to benefit America first the world second. So we only take in the immigrants that are most likely to benefit us with no moral obligation to the rest.

you are dumb as a brick

Really, you seriously have to ask such a stupid question?

You can't answer it.

I mean, you have to be kidding. What's your threshold then? Would only those in the inner cities be able to accurately identify and call out racism?

Please expound, Tom. I'd love to hear your logic on this. Don't insult & run away like you always do.

No, this conversation needs to be had.

Is there a point where we can have too many people coming here from impoverished nations?

Yes or no.

It's not a yes or no question. There is a point where we can have too many people coming here from ALL nations. Of course we need immigration policy & restrictions.

But it shouldn't be based on country or poverty.

we pick and choose quotas for each country,,,we already do it now..study up.
Why in Great Buddhas name should we do otherwise??

The idea though is to move from an extended family criteria to a merit based criteria

It is a yes or no question and the answer is a resounding yes.

Too many unskilled workers will overload our welfare system. We aren’t in the Industrial Revolution any more where people can come here and go straight to work in the mines or steel mills.

So, what’s your criteria?

I'd like to see a more univerasa;merit based system, rather then country by country quota, but as long as it's
merit based is OK..* que the music * Imagine there's no country/it isn't hard to do* ( Imagine- J Lennon)

Those quotas are not decided in the way Darth is talking about.
