Agree on all counts, but you cannot ignore the extra layer of delusion that runs through this scenario. Sure...he has one agenda...increase his wealth by any means necessary. He was wallowing in debt, with numerous failed projects. Given this level of power, he knows that he can secretly (he hopes) ignore emoluments issues, as he sees income rise.
But on top of all of that, he really thinks that he's a success, and everyone adores/respects him.
The miscalculation, is that his/Ivanka's brands are in the toilet. In the long run, after all prosecutions are done, he'll be worse off than before he started his campaign.
