Why does it have to be the FBI?

They would have to have something to actually investigate... What would that be?

Not sure I understand. The FBI background checks are for adults 18 and older. They don't go into checks into their childhood years (unless there is a juvi record).
 
Federal background checks should not be confused with national background checks. Federal checks are for crimes that are prosecuted at a federal level, which include infractions such as tax evasion, bank robbery, kidnapping, and counterfeiting. A national background check, on the other hand, is a check that includes records from all states, counties, and tribal territories.

That is actually up to the particular state. Not all states allow juvenile records to be released, even to the FBI.

Bigger question is why is the GOP in such a hurry? Take the two to three weeks and do it properly, it is a life time appointment, they have all the votes they need, so why not give it the time it deserves?
