That's what the smarter Republicans were hoping to use as their message: to frame it that it was the Democrats who chose to shut down the government. That would have been a tough message to sell (other than for the deeply stupid people on the right, of course), but it's a message that they at least had some hope of getting the less politically astute centrists to believe. Then that brain-damaged orange pile of pus came along and ruined any hopes they had. He came right out and said it would be on him if the government shut down. And he said it on camera, so that Democrats could throw it in Republican faces again and again, any time the smarter Republicans tried to take your talking point out for a spin. The moment Trump defecated on himself on live TV that way, every Democratic politician watching smiled, and every Republican politician cringed.
This is why so many on the left are now starting to see Trump as a kind of perverse asset to the left. He's just so stupid that having him as the face of the GOP really does limit just how effective they can be in their evil plans.

People who work for the government for starters. They don't get paid. Also, anyone who relies on government services. Also, there are the tourists who, for example, show up in DC to see the Smithsonian only to be turned away. Also, anyone who wants to be able to take pride in America and hates to see us behaving like a third-world emerging democracy that can't even handle the day-to-day functions of government with consistency.

Actually it was trump bull shit exposed to the highest level. He told Chuck and Nancy that there was a provision in the new NAFTA bill that would require Mexico to pay for the wall. Isn't this great news, now there won't be a government shutdown.
