I think that all good people will have to wonder where your priorities lie? My opinion is that Ocasio-Cortez could get more support for gutting the US military down to affordable levels for the taxpayers. As opposed to it being a bad thing to gut the US military. After all, what would a military a tenth the size compromise in ways of providing security for Americans.

There are no real military threats for the US to consider anymore. No nuclear power is ever going to attack the US and the US has no need for nuclear weapons to attack any other. The same with conventional weapons against any of the nuclear powers.

Ocasio-Cortez is aware that 9/10's of America's military might is used and will be used against small nations that were mentioned in the PNAc plans for world domination. And it's not going to ever happen now since Obama sold the farm and made the deal with Putin/Russia on no war with Syria.

As for Iran, if the US moves on Iran, that is reason for Russia/China to strike back to defend their interests and you Americans should bloody well know that would end in your country becoming a glass parking lot.

The consolation prize is that the rest of the world becomes the same.
 
Ocasio-Cortez is a wildcard, but I think most Democrats in Congress realize the defense industry is a job programs for Democrat voters who are too stupid to hold a real job and can only perform simple blue collar jobs like being a welder or machinist. For that reason the vast majority of defense jobs are safe.

NATO expansion has led to yuge increases in NATO spending..and for what? on top of all that Obama started a side program called "European Reassurance Initiative" which drains out another $5B or so of our tax dollars.

All it has done is force Putin into a strategic ( not just tactical) alliance with Xi.. :palm:

There are threats out there but keeping troops in Syria, and NATO spending at these is an utter waste-
even if Trump is getting more members to pony up more of the costs

Your argument: we should continue funding our wildly expensive and inefficient military because a few people in it get to go to college mostly tuition free (The GI Bill doesn't cover things like cost-of-living, etc.).

How about this: how about instead of using the military as an excuse to give some people free college, you just give people free college and not spend $700-$800B on a military?

Most of the defense contractors employ people in red districts. Like Lima, OH, which John Boehner represented for years which built tanks the Pentagon literally mothballed in the New Mexican desert.
