Why is Trump such a socialist?

Why is Trump using the Federal Government to tell private companies if they can or cannot fly airplanes they own?

These are private corporations who own these airplanes... Should they not be free to make the choice?

Socialism would be government owned airlines.

Isn't that what Trump just did?

I don't know if Toadstool has held anyone responsible. He *did* however ground all of the suspect planes until the tech and sci guys can figure it out. I agree with that decision. Not sure why you are arguing about it at this point.

Hmm. So in most cities govt. owns the water supply, as well as the sewer systems. Is that socialism? In most states govt. regulates (but doesn't always own) public utilities. Is that socialism? In our former city in STL, the city owns the electric utility company... socialism!?

All across the nation, govts. fund the buildings and pay for the salaries of teachers, LEOs, fire fighters, EMS. Is that socialism? What about libraries? Our taxes support them. Is that socialism? Are prisons, courts, and jails socialism?

All governments provide those basic services (or contract them out) which means one country is not differentiated from another based on these (almost) universal services. Economics defines socialism as the public ownership of the means of production and distribution of goods and services. This usually applies to major industries such as oil and gas, shipbuilding, airlines, car manufacturing, etc.)

The point is to differentiate various types of economic systems. If we call all nations with public schools socialist that makes all nations socialist and ignores the differences in those systems. Different nations have more or less of these major industries owned by the government which allows us to measure the degree of socialism in those countries.

No that’s communism. Study up.

Nope. Communism is a political system and socialism is an economic system. "Real" communism cannot exist without a socialist economic system even though communist nations like China have adopted many elements of capitalism such as free market and private ownership of large segments of major industries.

A nation can have government owned airlines and a democratic political system and it is not communist.

Today communism is not much more than rule by the communist party with whatever economic system they choose to run. The authoritarian/totalitarian elements of communist nations are not unique to communism but were imposed on nations with long histories of authoritarian control.

Because you said: "economics are far more important than people's lives, if you're a Reichwinger." Obviously you were wrong and just admitted that, albeit begrudgingly and with further derision lol.

You are going to get into circular argument here, with Trump-lovers performing mental gymnastics and back flips to try to define what socialism is.

The Norwegian government owns the state oil company, owns and controls large portions of the energy, financial, and telecommunications sectors of Norway, and the nation of Norway provides a generous social welfare state.

By any definition your garden variety wingnut has floated over the years, that is an example of a type of socialism.

But when you mention that Norway in a nice place to live, people are happy there, and it is therefore an example of the benefits of state socialism, wingnuts will howl in protest.

What we are talking about here are semantics; no, worse than that: word games. What wingnuts really want is for the word "socialism" to only be limited to the totalitarian Leninist-Maoist communist police states of Soviet Union, People Republic of China, North Korea, Cuba, etc. They will perform amazing mental gymnastics to belatedly try to prevent any association of the word socialism with Norway, Sweden, or Denmark.

Nope. I said that Trump only grounded the flights after the internet started muttering about his financial and social connections with Boeing execs. Read back. I'm pleased that -- no matter what his motive -- he did the right thing. You're the one who tried to defend the Tard-in-Chief by stating that he delayed because Boeing is such a large part of our economy.

I gave you your exact quote. Too late to walk it back. You let your bitter hatred cloud your judgement. :nono:

This is simply untrue, Communism requires state planning and ownership of all private property. It may be that China is not truly communist, but that is what Communism is/was.

All political systems are moving toward a mix, it is simply the way of survival. Pure Communism has ceased to exist as has pure capitalism. All governments now operate with a mix, and the only argument is what that mix is. There is no black and white or pure bad and pure good when it comes to political system ideology.

Are you suggesting that is the only socialism allowed?

Unless there is a Constitutional amendment, yes on the Federal level. Now if California, or any other state, wants to go full commie then I don't have a problem with that.
