99.9999% chance humans are causing global warming,
and other science-based facts on climate change for Earth Day

Climate change is real and increasingly a part of our daily lives. New research and studies out in just the past six months highlight the latest facts about the human-caused shift to our global weather systems and its effects on our planet.

First among them, there's no longer any question that rising temperatures and increasingly chaotic weather are the work of humanity. There's a 99.9999% chance that humans are the cause of global warming, a February study reported. That means we've reached the "gold standard" for certainty, a statistical measure typically used in particle physics.

The mechanism is well understood and has been for decades. Humans burn fossil fuels such as oil, coal and gas, which release carbon dioxide (CO2), methane and other gases into the Earth's atmosphere and oceans. CO2 is the greenhouse gas that's most responsible for warming.

Amazing trumps blunt skulls have made this into a political issue

Amazing trumps blunt skulls have made this into a political issue

One reason I thought being a registered Republican was an okay thing to do when I was in my early 20s, was I thought the party at that time was relatively pro-environment.

Today, we have a presidential family that likes to hunt and slaughter elephants and leopards.

I shudder to think how even more damaged our planet would be if we hadn't woke up back then and enacted environmental laws, and created the EPA as well. The bill that created the EPA was signed into law by a Republican president. Good luck trying to get that kind of thing passed now, with the current crop of science-denying (R)s.

It is really remarkable to think how protecting the environment used to be a bipartisan issue.

I think the arguably the most noble law ever passed by the United States congress was the endangered species act. There was no economic incentive to do it, it did not benefit lobbyists, wall street, or the halls of corporate American in any measurable sense.

It was just the right thing to do as citizens of a planet we share with other living things.

Because of an obstructionist Democrat congress, President Nixon had to resort to using an Executive Order to create the EPA.

Democrats only care about making money off the CO2 hoax. :palm:

Oh, how unfortunate.

Yes, for sure. But it definitely came with a huge load of opposition and rancor, remember that? To this day if I hear the words "spotted owl," I have a flashback to those days.

World Pangolin Day: China's insatiable thirst for pangolin scales is fed ...
https://qz.com/.../chinas-insatiable-thirst-for-pangolin-scales-is-fed-by-an-international...

Surprisingly, I learned about the illegal trafficking of tree pangolins by playing the video game Metal Gear Solid-The Phantom Menace.

Don't let anyone tell you than mindless, violent video games just rot the brain!

Apparently, the pangolin scales are considered an aphrodisiac in some Asian countries.

Wrapping up: I consider tree pangolin kidnapping and trafficking to be on a par with war crimes!!

There has never been an environmental scam as profitable for the wealthy as the Al Groian CO2 hoaz. A trillion dollar global scam, and nothing to show for it but subsidized luzury cars for the rich..I bet you have one. :palm:

Still terribly unfortunate.

Poor spotted owl. A helpless bird used as a pawn, a marketing gimmick by anti-environmentalists. I remember it well! I think Bedtime for Bonzo had his paws on that one!

The Asians are responsible for the vast majority of today's real environmental problems.

Isn't rhino horn also considered a love potion thing, and that's why they're poached? One species has recently been declared extinct, the black rhino. This link might make you weep.

Blanket statements like that lack credibility and don't impress me.

There's enough blame to go around, and climate change, protection of endangered species, and conservation of world ecosystems require global solutions and global cooperation.

Still don't care.

Al Gore is the worst thing that ever happened to the environmental movement. In your world, only the rich are allowed to pollute.

Then obviously you need to play some more video games ... so you get yourself some learnin'.

How many bowls of shark fin soup have you had today?

Rhino horns, shark fins, elephant tusks, pangolin scales.

It really should be enough for us as humans to take stock and reflect on the scale of the atrocities we are committing, all in the name of our vanity.

Sadly, we have a presidential family who thinks wasting elephants in a hailstorm of bullets is just great fun. I don't see leadership coming out of this White House in the slightest.
