The reason there is a scene at the port of San Diego is because Trump is ignoring US law and is refusing to process asylum applicants as all previous presidents have. Thus there is a massive backlog and thousands with nothing to do but sit in San Diego and wait for the most evil and racist man in the world to unfreeze his heart a tiny bit, enough to follow the laws of his own nation. This is not the result of massive amounts of people all at once suddenly appearing at the border. This is a creation of Trump.

Everyone in the border patrol should be immediately fired for taking part in a political debate. The border patrol should not be politicized. We can build a new border guard, members of the former border patrol need not apply. Learn to code.
 
I encourage the people waiting at the border to ignore the illegal dictates of the illegal "president", and follow American law by crossing the border and applying for asylum there. It is their right under the law of the land, and since the law of the land is being ignored at the border this is the only way they can be congruent with American law. If you wait in Mexico, you are aiding in the violation of American law and should not be given asylum.

I don't suppose you've ever heard of the Dublin Protocol, have you? Are you saying that Mexico is such a shithole that nobody wants to claim asylum there?

Visa overstays are on the agenda. Maybe you didn't know.

President Trump will be signing a memorandum regarding sanctions on countries with high rates of visa overstays in the United States.

The memorandum includes, among other measures, placing travel restrictions on citizens of the 20 countries who have higher than 10% visa overstay rates, including Chad, Yemen, Syria, Angola and others.

Over 415,000 individuals overstayed their short-term visitor visas in FY 2018, according to Department of Homeland Security data.

This is part of the Trump Administration’s comprehensive approach to combating illegal immigration.

Visa overstays account for nearly half of all immigrants present in the U.S. illegally.

The crackdown on visa overstays is just the latest in a line of administrative actions getting tough on illegal immigration. The administration has taken several measures in the past aimed at reducing overstays, including using biometric systems at ports of entries to identify travelers.

The Wall Street Journal first reported that the administration was considering restrictions on the visa program last week.

This issue is an issue of national security, public safety and of economic security. This form of illegal immigration imposes dramatic costs on American society because people are becoming dependent on our public welfare system paid for by U.S. taxpayers.

The Department for Housing and Urban Development followed that decision by proposing a crackdown on illegal immigrants taking advantage of public housing benefits.
