It doesn't. It's just more nonsense from racists who want to pretend that they're not. Anyone who has read any books written in the 1800s or through mid-20th century about the South has seen the word used. Sometimes they say "nigra(s)", the more educated used "Negro(s)", sometimes "darkies," but most often "nigger(s)." It began as shorthand for African slaves, then post-Civil War it became a pejorative. It's part of a lexicon of ugly words to describe those who were other -- spics, greasers, wops, coons, wetbacks, chinks, kikes, dagos, pollacks, krauts, slants, micks, redskins, injuns, gooks, spooks, squaws, honky, crackers, ragheads, towel heads, nips, etc. Racists and xenophobics use the term to make sure that we understand that those ppl are not like us... and inferior to boot.

From Wikipedia: "Nigger / nigra / nigga / niggah / nigguh
(U.S., UK) An offensive term for a black person. From the word negro, which means the color black in numerous languages. Diminutive appellations include Nigg and Nigz. Over time, the terms nigga and niggaz (plural) have come to be frequently used between some African-Americans without the negative associations of nigger."

Wikipedia summarily dismissed as a reference. You cannot use it as a reference with me. It's articles are biased, incomplete, badly worded, or even outright wrong.

Actually I studied both Latin and Spanish and I know what the Spanish word for black is.
I don't believe you. If you did, you would understand the word is not always used in a derogatory manner.
I'm saying that using the N-word as a racist slur dates to the 18th century.
It's also still used today not as a racist slur.
I'm curious about why people living on a continent that's 80% black would call someone the N-word.
For the simple reason it means 'black'.
Our country is something like 75% white yet we don't refer to each other as "whitey."
No, but we call each other white.

Code for: "Oh fuck, you proved me wrong so I must attack your source!"

Even though my first paragraph was my own and did not come from Wikipedia or any other source other than my own excellent memory, and my own knowledge of etymology.

Do you think you can stop being a racist some day soon?

You can turn yourself inside out trying to persuade us that the N-word not a derogatory term but in this country it is, and has been for several centuries. I doubt the members of Stormfront or Chimpout are thinking about the etymology of nigrum or negre when they use the word as a racial slur.

I do not defend the KKK in any way. They are violent sicko fucks that only want to see blacks harmed.

Anyone making academic arguments about the N word deserves what they get. It's a ridiculous endeavor. See, there is this thing call "time"
So whether or not the N word was once derogatory or calumny neutral, it certainly is not that now.

The N word IS inherently racist. It doesn't matter what it once was. To even begin to try that illuminates more about the person attempting
it than any light they can shed on meaning.

False authority fallacy. Circular argument fallacy.

Divisional error fallacy. I don't believe you have much of a knowledge of the source of any word. You have already shown it.
Do you think you can stop being a racist some day soon?
I'm not racist.

It is not always a derogatory word, even in the United States.
