Rep. Alexandria Occasion Cortez has 20zK in student loan debt

You should just vote for Trump since you're echoing all his talking points.

Talking points are rhetoric which usually have little to do with actual policies. However, I might if Democrats nominate anybody other than Biden. Or, just go Libertarian again.

None of which have anything to do with the poverty rate. You also bring up facts completely irrelevant to the topic being discussed; especially when it does not fit your ideology.

Having lived in California for 35 years I've gotten to witness both its greatness and its faults. Ideology blinds people of all political persuasions (myself included) but pretty amazing the lengths someone is willing to go to deny what the supplemental poverty measure says (and is pretty clear to anyone who lives here) about California and poverty.

How much in actual dollars it amounts to is irrelevant to the fact that the lower tax rate raised as much revenue as a portion of the economy. Remember that the 1% GDP is also reflected in increased expenditures.

Flash, nominal changes to rev-GDP have massive changes in terms of real dollars. You can't pay for health care with a percentage. You pay for it with dollars.

The poverty rate*, when you say it, should have an asterisk after it because you're withholding vital exculpatory information about that rate to make a bad faith argument.

Agreed. And if the supplemental measure includes things like students receiving financial aid for college that same measure is being applied in all other states and should not increase the relative poverty in CA any more than any other state.

One of the criticisms of the poverty rate was that it did not include government benefits. If I am listed under the poverty level at $20,000 but receive SNAP, WIC, housing assistance, home energy assistance, school lunches, and Medicaid that is probably at least $10,000 and I am no longer under the poverty threshold (plus child support).

Don't start that crap again. You are the only poster that has to be explained that general statements are not to be taken 100% literally. I usually have to add a "almost all" statement just for you because you argue primarily trivia. When a person says billionaires earned their money honestly any rational person knows it does not mean 100%. There are crooks among billionaires, poor people, Democrats, etc.

Are you really that literal or do you just like to argue? If I say blacks vote Democratic, I don't think I have to say "most" or "90+ percent." Everybody except LV426 will know what I mean and not waste time on explanation.

Are all the people that literal on LV426?

Flash, you literally said that billionaires earn their wealth honestly.

I gave you an example of the Sacklers, showing that isn't the case.

So you do that all the time; you start off saying something vague and broad and then spend the rest of your time redefining what you meant.

You are the only poster that has to be explained that general statements are not to be taken 100% literally.

Literally this is the "words don't mean what they mean" argument now.

Just because you're lazy doesn't mean I'm a bad guy for pointing that laziness out.

You didn't say there were crooks among billionaires, you literally said "They earned their money honestly and should not be looked down upon by others who are jealous of their success."

You didn't say anything about some. You said an absolute because you're lazy and you use lazy talking points.

And you can't make an economic argument against cutting spending.

Sure I can!

If you cut spending and don't replace that spending in the economy, you do what to the economy? CONTRACT IT.

You assume, magically, that every $1 cut in federal spending is somehow compensated at an equal $1 rate in the private sector but that is not the case at all.

If you remove government spending, what are you replacing that spending with? Nothing. You're just contracting spending in the economy, which results in an economic contraction.

You are out of your depth here.

It is considered the more accurate measurement since cost-of-living certainly affects the poverty level of a family. It only gives a more realistic picture of poverty across the country. And I said in my original post that CA has the highest poverty level in the country when adjusted for cost of living (*). The cost of living in not exculpatory but more accurate information.

Accuse the Census Bureau using the Bureau of Labor Statistics data for the bad faith.

Great. We don't need or want your vote, so go fuck yourself.

Cawacko, you're a fucking moron who didn't even know what the supplemental poverty rate was until I told you.

You stupidly thought it was just the regular poverty rate.

Then when it's explained to you what it actually is, you ignore that information because you're lazy, disingenuous, or both.

What it does is lump in middle class families as below the poverty line because the get things like financial assistance on tuition.

Yes, I "literally" said that. But again, being lazy and not taking the time to type out what everyone else already understands is two different things. In an earlier discussion I used the term "almost" just for you but you still tried to claim I was saying "all."

OK. One more time. The great majority of all Americans--millionaires, billionaires, those in the top 1%, etc. earn the money honestly. Some do not and we all understand that. If you have any evidence to the contrary then let us know--the Sacklers is an example of one of the dishonest ones and does not disprove my point.

You are using that tired old liberal cliche---"there are no self-made men"

It creates a larger government that takes more money out of the economy that could be used for consumer spending.

Could?

By cutting government spending, you're pulling spending out of the economy and you're wishing to the invisible hand that spending is replaced at least 1:1. But look at the spending you're cutting...how will it be replaced by consumer spending in the economy? If you cut SNAP, how is that replaced in the consumer economy with spending? If you cut heating assistance, how is that spending replaced in the economy? It's not. Cutting spending in one place doesn't increase spending in another. That's not how the economy works.

It creates a generation who think they can get government to pay their debt obligations.

Emotional argument; not grounded in any reason.

It encourages colleges to raise their costs because the students will not have to pay for them (which is acknowledged they have done with current loans and grants).

It doesn't encourage colleges to raise their costs because public colleges are free in this proposal.

Higher taxes and a wealth tax result in people finding ways to shelter that money.

So...they don't do that already? The rich people are paying taxes now, how come they aren't avoiding it? Is there a magic number where they will suddenly stop paying taxes they've already been paying?

by an actual economist, that shows how much a wealth tax would actually generate. I know you don't like economists, because they aren't emotional basket cases like you, but their findings are pretty air-tight. They also account for avoidance.

Political choices are not always determined by economic arguments but by many other factors.

Only because you seek to make it so...like I said, your economics are pretty weak to non-existent here. A sober look at the data and economics, though...

Great. We don't need or want your vote, so go fuck yourself.

Very mature response.

This must be an example of the "inhumane" action cawacko said I would asked to perform if I presented disagreeable facts or opinions.

Is LV426 a liberal planet?

There are no self-made men...they have to rely on others to help them achieve their wealth. Unless you think Bill Gates is single-handedly doing everything at Microsoft.

The great majority of all Americans--millionaires, billionaires, those in the top 1%, etc. earn the money honestly.

How do you know that? How can you say that? You can't. This is another goalpost that you are going to move, aren't you?

Look, you're trying to make it seem like it's important we consider your emotions when it comes to the economy and the vote, and I'm telling you that no one cares or gives a shit.

So go ahead and vote for Donald fucking Duck if you want; doesn't make a lick of difference to me. You're not a reliable voter anyway; you're someone who thinks he's entitled to people accommodating your bad faith.

Because it is not true. Look at the history of revenues and expenditures to see that spending increased faster than revenues.

WTF are you talking about? Clinton raised taxes and increased spending 25% over his term and ended with a budget surplus that you morons erased with tax cuts.

You were proven wrong that fiscal year 2018 revenue was higher than 2017. And I never claimed tax cuts increased revenue--that is a false argument on your part.

Your argument for tax cuts is that it "lets people keep more of what they earn" (which it doesn't, household debt always increases and personal savings always declines after tax cuts), which is the "pay for themselves" argument which is the "cutting tax revenue increases tax revenue" argument.

And the Russia Tax Cut didn't start on the FISCAL YEAR, it started on the CALENDAR YEAR.

You have yet to show any increased debt and lower personal savings have any connection to tax cuts. Correlation does not equal causation.

OMFG, I literally showed you the example from Kansas; the state cut education spending because the tax cuts unbalanced the budget, and the State Board of Regents increased their tuition to account for that drop in funding. That resulted in families having to borrow more to send their kids to state schools. That is literally an example of how a tax cut caused an increase in personal debt.

What it does is lump in middle class families as below the poverty line because the get things like financial assistance on tuition.

Did you get that tidbit of information from the Census Bureau or from Mother Jones, Raw Story, or some other source.

I cannot find that information in the methodology on the Census Bureau explanation. I think those things are counted as additions to income and not as additions to poverty. I find nothing about Pell or any educational grants.
