I can't see anything conservative about Trump: I think all they saw in him was, given their intense contempt for ordinary people, a method to get the mugs to vote for their label. Have they got any real benefit by that? It seems to me he's made everything far less worth conserving.

He is the most conservative governing President since Reagan

He may have talked like a pro choicer but he governs as a pro lifer. Unlike Romney who is a “severe conservative” or Bush 43 who was a “compassionate conservative”

I can see that he identifies with certain notions that conservatives find it convenient to identify with, like fundamentalist religion, but what about serious matters like free trade?

Think about this. Because of Trump, Iran’s attacks on Saudi oil had little to impact on markets.

20 years ago that kind of attack not only would have sent markets reeling but we would have been deploying troops. But because Trump has led us down the path of energy independence we don’t have to fight foreign wars for oil. There was a time when committed leftists would chant the refrain “NO BLOOD FOR OIL”

Bugger the Saudi dictatorship, and what is the point of going to war with China? My point is that ancient civilisations that were flourishing before any of us were thought of are not going to grovel, any more than has Cuba. The way to settle disputes is to negotiate like normal humans, surely?
