The Cheerleader President

Is this what anyone wants out of a President?

And I'm not talking about someone like Reagan, who always presented an optimistic vision, but within the framework of the facts. Trump's version of "cheerleading" and keeping things positive is keeping the facts from the populace, as though we're children that need to be protected from the real truth. His version is publicly proclaiming that the virus is contained, and that 15 who are infected will quickly go down to zero.

His version is based in a wish and a prayer - not on reality, factual information or truth.

Do you feel that a President needs to protect us from the truth in this way? Do you prefer just hearing good things, no matter how far they are from reality?

Trump was not protecting anyone other than himself.

According to Vance, the slow release of test kits strikes her as suspicious and suggested that the president and members of his administration don’t want people tested because they fear the tests will reveal that the epidemic is worse than the White House is letting on.

As Vance wrote, “Why not test for Coronavirus? The only explanation we’ve seen so far is because Trump wants to keep the numbers down. He thinks this helps his chances of re-election. In other words, he cares less about your health than his future. Mass testing is logical, sensible & doable.”

Go easy on Trump, Bart.

He's working under a great handicap.

He is a fucking moron who thinks he is a very stable genius.

THIS is a stable genius:

Yeah - stable genius doesn't seem to understand the basics of good management & leadership: PREPARE FOR THE WORST, and hope for the best.

Also why he wasn't "right" on ventilators, and some keep saying. He was fairly lucky on ventilators. On the spread of the virus, not so much.

ROFL..so when he's wrong he's culpable, but when he's right..he's lucky?? 2 faced much?

And a cheerleader is a refreshing change from the dour Obama Apology President

Nope. Trump bases none of his predictions on fact - just on nothing but pure hope. He got lucky w/ ventilators - but not w/ his 15 to zero prediction.

I'd rather have the truth. I don't find someone candycoating everything for me to be "refreshing." Just insulting to the intelligence of the average American and their ability to handle facts.

Staying in kept people off ventilators. Cuomo and others made the right call.

Exactly. You prepare for the worst, and then just be thankful it didn't go that far.

Can't figure out why Trump makes such a big deal about the "expense" of ventilators and testing. The economy is losing trillions. Those things are minor investments by comparison, to protect life and further cost to businesses.

Pennywise, pound foolish - as Republicans tend to be, imo.

Republicans should know this. They, our government, have spent years building the biggest military industrial complex. Our nuclear stockpile is rediculous. They should understand. We seem to be prepared for military war.

But it’s okay to buy “specimen” trees! His priorities are screwed up.

I saw some speculation today that Trump is resisting calls for more widespread testing because he thinks higher #'s will be worse for his re-election campaign.

It was pure speculation, so who knows. But it was a bit depressing to me how believable that was. I wouldn't put something like that past him, at all.

That is exactly his type of thinking, he wants low numbers, he wants it to “disappear”, plus he isn’t able to process the complex need for testing. They have to dumb down reports for him. He is not a details man, which is why he is such a poor leader.

Trump is just trying to fire up his base of reckless hateful idiots, better known as Trumptards, and get himself re-elected!

Sorry, but I feel compelled to be perfectly honest here!

I prefer reality. Which is why I do not listen to #COVID45's rantings, bellows, screeches, whines, farts, and lies.

you just described every state of the union in my lifetime

presidents cheer and wave pom poms. They act like a king, it is disgusting.

the projections were insane for ventilltors -Cuomo wanted like 30k . Trump told him to pound sand.
~~

But you don't get the idea of Trump being an advocate for the USA -whether it's the economy, or jobs, whatever.
All that "talking up" is an optimistic way of framing issues.
Optimists are happy when things are good. Pessimists and Apologists like to be dour. Bad news satisfies their psyche.

I had enough of the Apology Tour and "needing magic wands" by Obama.. give me some Can Do instead!
*and we did*!
