Nick Sandman getting rich

I suppose, but if it's a public school, public money will fund the security guard just the same as funding a cop there. I suppose you could argue that security is cheaper, but that's the only benefit I could see with removing cops from the equation.

Yeah well the police's job is to "protect and serve" the community, not sit around watching out for kids.

I find this discussion kind of odd considering that it was only a few years ago when most progressives I spoke to were big advocates of having police at schools. Shortly after Parkland, that was a big thing. Just a few years later, the position seems to be to remove police altogether. What gives?

Another thing about schools. I could argue that teachers be trained with guns. They aren't armed during school hours, but there would be locked safes where teachers and staff have access to.

I don't remember anything about that. I remember people arguing that teachers should be armed or something like that.

I like that idea, but that would get you labeled as a right wing nutjob in many circles.

The general counter to having teachers armed was to have police at schools. Overall, many on the right wanted to arm teachers, and many on the left wanted more police at schools.

Or protest in the street then get runover by a fucking Nazi while Fox demonizes you as a communist slut? Like that?

Fox is generally the exception to the rule on bias. Most of the mainstream media leans left, while Fox is the right leaning one (at least when it comes to TV).

For a libertarian, you do seem to lean SJW on social issues. I thought most libertarians hated political correctness.

Not rioting and looting for one. And if they are Marxists, as some love to claim, that would mean they know what it means and they read Karl Marx/Engels and know a lot about economics. Can't have both ways.

Notice that they protest over specific incidents?

Why would someone who reads Marx and Engels know anything about economics?

Now that the left will want cops out of schools, I wonder what they'll pivot to?

Karl Heinrich Marx[12] (5 May 1818 – 14 March 1883) was a German philosopher, economist, historian, sociologist, political theorist, journalist and socialist revolutionary.

His political and philosophical thought had enormous influence on subsequent intellectual, economic and political history

Marx's critical theories about society, economics and politics – collectively understood as Marxism – hold that human societies develop through class conflict. In capitalism, this manifests itself in the conflict between the ruling classes (known as the bourgeoisie) that control the means of production and the working classes (known as the proletariat) that enable these means by selling their labour power in return for wages.[13] Employing a critical approach known as historical materialism, Marx predicted that, like previous socio-economic systems, capitalism produced internal tensions that would lead to its self-destruction and replacement by a new system known as socialism.

I like what Tim Pool pointed out recently. Whether intentionally or not, the position that progressives are taking with police is similar to one that libertarians have taken for years. The idea is that police are overreach by the state in most respects. So, even if the progressive version of this idea still involves lots of money being spent by the state for other purposes (social work, etc.), the end result is that many people will be hiring private security -- particularly the rich.

Pool basically is saying that we're going to see a lot more privatized security in society. That clearly favors the wealthy, however, since most working class people can't afford private security.

IOW, people who read Marx and Engels will only learn economic beliefs that do not work.

Well obviously full socialism/Communism and laissez-faire Capitalism don't work. So regulated Capitalism mixed with socialist programs seem to have been working well.

When considering how Democrats running several major cities have complied with many BLM demands, that sounds like more than just a fringe. Minneapolis is dismantling its police, while several other cities are pushing forward with "reforms" that are often quite extreme. https://www.kgw.com/article/news/lo...cuts/283-239c5e3a-cfed-4dce-8775-d2c52a9df9aa

First of all, what happens in a few cities has little or no bearing on what happens nationally.

If they decimate their police departments and they become crime infested, they'll have to answer for that to the voters.

Second, without knowing exactly which parts of these police departments will be affected, we cannot say whether it is a good idea or not. Maybe these departments are too top heavy with too much bureaucracy. Maybe they aren't taking cops off the streets or, not away from high crime areas. Also, a lot of the defunding talk has to do with surplus military equipment.

Do small police departments really need artillery?

Most of the discussion I've heard has to do with police functions. Activists seem to want less armed police involved in various situations, but this is unrealistic oftentimes. Granted, these are typically the same people arguing against having any cash bail system. Some other bad ideas they push involve reducing certain witness protections (the repercussions of which involved a federal informant being killed by MS13 in NY), while still others are arguing against prisons in general.

Granted, becoming crime infested doesn't seem to really change anything. Baltimore has been crime infested for decades, but that hasn't ended the one party control there.
