A normal vaccine has about a 20% chance of working by the time it hits final testing. These are not normal vaccines, so we are not getting a 20% chance. We need at least 20 final tests, along with the manufacturing capacity to produce them all. Almost none of this manufacturing capacity will be used, but we need it because we do not know what will or will not be used. I would like to see $200 billion being spent, but that would be on the low side.
Screaming at people who are losing their businesses to wait for a cure was just stupid. trump's promises of a cure were stupid. A cure is close to impossible.
We need to spend more time and effort on contact tracing, social distancing, testing, masks, etc. If we massively overspend on vaccines, there is some hope there, but even massive overspending might not do it.
