Despite the down sides, it appears there were plenty of controls in place to prevent fucking morons from destroying the United States.Yea...term limits is a pipe dream. I'm thinking more about clearly defined language re. emoluments. A real firewall between Executive and the A.G.. The first thing trump did in the W.H was to make the visitor list secret. We need to force transparency...something that was always adhered to because it's a bad look to ignore it. We rely too heavily on our POTUS being an honorable person who takes the job seriously. There's a certain adherence to historical norms and traditions that has been an unwritten understanding. An elected official is supposed to understand the importance of being trusted by the nation.
To date, the most accurate description of trump remains:
"He's like a kid in an air traffic control tower, pushing buttons and pulling levers".
He's drunk with power. That's not what we want in a POTUS. His 'fire and fury' comment lives in history as one of the stupidest, and most impotent statements on record when it comes to maintaining that gentle balance with our staunch enemies.
Those controls can always use a little refinement as you are rightfully pointing out .
One thing I'm looking forward to post-Trump is the stupid stuff he wanted to do but couldn't because of those controls already in place.
