At any rate, if the Capitol building is the peoples House then the president is the people’s president and the people’s president was sufficiently threatened during the ‘protest’ that the Secret Service was forced to place him in the bunker for *national security* reasons. The presidents safety is a national security concern.
Where was the outrage and handwringing?
It was during this same climate of political unrest that Pelosi and whoever else was in charge of security was somehow caught flat footed on 1/6. The cynical side of me wants to think they didn’t ‘try terribly hard’ to prevent it from happening.
After all, it turned out to be a bit of a ‘political coup’ for certain parties.

Human beings are very nasty creatures. The veneer of civilization on the naked ape is a very thin one. Deprive them of food or shelter for a week and they quickly turn into vicious, untrustworthy animals. Some are vicious enough to murder for a meal. The behavior of people inside the New Orleans Stadium after Hurricane Katrina and the mob attack on the Capitol are examples of the worst humanity has to offer.
Humanity can be very good too. The best ones are seen when times are hard while most quickly degenerate into animals as seen in the examples above.

It's an elite group which will accept anyone who can pass the requirements, but most Americans, especially Democrats, want nothing to do with the military. Too many Americans think their patriotism and support for their nation ends by tying yellow ribbon on a branch then walking away. So who is left to join the military? Mostly right-leaning Americans, not always Republicans, from right-leaning, often veteran, families.
Again, as this forum proves, Lefties hate Righties. How smart is it to hate half of America? Not very. It's even dumber to hate the half that is armed and consists primarily of military veterans.

Most ppl who join the military as enlistees (rather than officers who have degrees) are apolitical to begin with, but with the atmosphere and indoctrination they become right-leaning. I'm not sure where you get that the "left despises the military." That is not true at all. What IS true is that we don't encourage our kids to go that route if they are capable of making a decent living in the civilian world. We don't see the military as much more than one possible career path. In other words we don't worship the military the way the right does. It's just another necessary employer, like plumbers, teachers, truck drivers.

It's not. It's divisive. Hate begets hate. Revenge is a cycle, not a solution.
Disagreed. Anyone joining the military is already a little right of center, at least on some major issues. People who join for the wrong reasons end up in trouble and are marked for life with an OTH discharge or worse.
Training helps and with training, people can lean more right but that doesn't mean they grow more stupid as many LWers assert. OTOH, notice that many of the far Right Trumpeteers like Dark Soul AKA China Joe, Tom Prendergast, Darth Opie and several others are not vets.
Agreed many young people haven't been properly led. Mostly they've been spoiled with thinking they are more special than other Americans and are addicted to instant gratification.
The military isn't a career for everyone. It could be a major mistake to join just to help pay for a college degree. Better, IMO, is for them to join out of a sense of civic duty but consider learning a skill, travel and assistance with college as benefits. If they want a career, that's their choice.
