One thing that needs to be said over and over and over is that Trump was President when he was impeached.

Jan 20, 2021 - Trump leaves office.
Then we have this from the US Constitution -
The Senate has the sole power to try ALL impeachments.
There is no requirement that impeachments become moot if the person impeached has left office. Rather it specifically states the Senate has "the sole power to try all impeachments." Trump was impeached while in office so that is clearly an impeachment for which the Senate has the power to hold a trial for since they can do that for ALL impeachments.
