I'm one progressive liberal who....

The guy was a socialist/communist supporter who wrote more from the perspective that American was a fundamentally bad/evil country, as was capitalism. That's not going to win you too many fans on the right.

I’m home for a couple of weeks before having to travel to Texas to preach for a week. It’s been raining for days so I’ve had more free time than usual to kill. Plus, this thread hits close to home, literally. I remember sitting in my high school history class thinking how awful of an event this was and how wrong they were. Our book presented it as a riot but our teacher taught is it was much more. I can read around those I might not have on ignore that I might should have.

Nifty is to me the classic liberal. He can look down his nose at anyone for anything. That’s OK. At least he isn’t the screaming banshee that is desh. ;)

That is dictionary definition of white supremacy to me.

I've never suggested that the African American electorate was an ideological monolith.

I did opine very forcefully that an African American office holder who belongs to an obviously racist political movement
falls under what I would think of as a
watermelon eating lawn jockey of an Uncle Tom worthy of harsh derision by well-intentioned people of every ethnicity.
Tim Scott carries Lindsey Graham's bags and is grateful for the opportunity.

Your feeling differently about it is of course your prerogative, cawacko.

We clearly don't all speak with a like voice.

I'm still blown away at your calling Tim Scott a watermelon eating Uncle Tom. We talk a lot about white supremacy but what is white supremacy if not telling black people that you aren't black unless you think (or behave) a certain way? As a white person has anyone ever told you that you aren't white because of how you think?

Just think about that. Why should someone have restrictions on what they can think or believe because of their race? To be clear, I'm in no way saying you can't think Tim Scott is wrong to believe what he does. But stating that is very different than saying he's not black and is a (watermelon eating) Uncle Tom because you don't like what he believes.

Apples and onions. White Americans do not exist in the same political bubble that African-Americans exist in. A better analogy would be condemning a Jewish person for standing against a Nazi and saying that ‘you aren’t Jewish if you vote for a Nazi. Would you have a problem with that? Most people would not, just as nearly all African-Americans had no problem with what Biden said.

Additionally, 87 percent of black voters did not vote for trump. 87%. Only 12% didn’t agree with Biden. That dynamic does not exist among white voters.

Apples and onions brother.

Trump is the definition of white supremacy and ONLY a black fool would support that.

Not apples and oranges at all. This is far bigger than Trump. The idea that blacks who don't/didn't toe the ideological line for what is deemed acceptable black thought has been around LONG before 2016. And even today folks like John McWhorter and Coleman Hughes, two black intellectuals who both voted for Biden, received the same vitriol Tim Scott does/did because they dare to have contrarian/heterodox views on race. (And this is not even getting into the irony that somehow it's ok for the guy who authored the legislation called The New Jim Crow to make that type of statement. But this is far bigger than Trump and Biden.)

We don't all see it the same way, cawacko.

Some people feel that all tolerance is positive.

Others see tolerating the intolerable to be a character flaw.

I'm in the second group.

People can disagree on issues and beliefs. There is nothing wrong with that. You can think a person is an a*hole, an idiot etc. Being a white person and telling a black person that because of their race they can't think a certain way or they aren't black is the definition of white supremacy. I'm repeating myself but that would never happen to a white person. (Does it even happen to Hispanic or Asian people?)

I don't agree that such is the actual definition of white supremacy, but except for a careless minor statement by Biden, nobody is doing that.

I'm deliberately mocking and disrespecting a person who supports a movement that's abusing him/her.
It could be a black person who supports white supremacy initiatives [virtually any black Republican].
It could be a pro-life woman [virtually any Republican woman].
It could be a worker who supports anti-unionism [virtually any working class Republican].
Are you seeing a pattern?

impugning points of view solely because of skin color is racist, or ignorant or both

It’s not just because you aren’t one of us that you don’t understand us,. There are millions of white people who do. It’s because you don’t want to understand. Too judgemental.

So you don’t like Hip Hop. It is the most lisented to and copied music on planet earth. It is in every country on the planet. It’s in country music, AND, the vast and overwhelming buyers of Hip Hop ARE WHITE. In other words, your participation is not required, not needed.

Hip Hop has made billionaires and millionaires many times over for black artists and entrepreneurs all over the world, most especially here in the US. Entirely legal, but you, a white guy who presumes to be a liberal doesn’t like it.

There is a reason why we call ourselves African-American.
Hey I dont NEED to understand black culture, anymore then blacks need to understand rock and roll and hippie culture.
Isn't that the beauty of the USA?
I respect whatever you value because I respect anyone legally here in the USA
do whatever you want to peacefully and lawfully and have a good day

Hey BAC, something you and I agree on 100%. A rarity indeed. But one can just place so many people on ignore...so I check in less frequently than in the past.
sorry man. It isn't my wish that these idiots are here. I try to walk a line and deal with what I can while keeping my promise to keep folks' first amendment rights sacred.

Personally I have serious issues with Tim Scott and have called him an Uncle Tom, but I refrain from any watermelon references as it plays into the evil of the right. As a white man who claims to be a liberal, surely he should know better.

Agreed, the racism on this site is barely tolerable .. which is why I visit a lot less.

Thanks.

You too. It's never been a goal to have these folks around.

The pattern I see here is that if they don't agree with you in thought or action you abuse them, call it mocking, and then pretend you have the only right way to think about something and pat yourself on the back for taking the "moral" path. All while telling folks that if they don't think like you want them to, then they just aren't "woman" enough, or "black" enough. Basically, I see that you judge folks not for their minds or character, but by the color of their skin, and use that measure to tell them how they should act to avoid your scorn and abuse.

Placing them on ignore instead of telling them to get the hell out of your party is why there is more

Which doesn't change that you don't get to tell me how I should think because of my slightly browner skin. You don't get to tell me how I should act, you don't get to pretend that you know what is best for me in some way that I "cannot comprehend" simply because my pigmentation doesn't match yours and you believe your nonsense and lies are better than the nonsense and lies from the other side.

You too. It's never been a goal to have these folks around.

But you do love them voting for all the evil your side represents

The right cuddles and snuggles these evil hate filled morons

And you can’t win any elections without the racists

That's actually an amazing stat, only 4% voted for him the first time.
