It appears that most of the participants of the 1/6 national embarrassment had nothing more in mind than to try to somehow persuade Congress to do something other than what it was legally obligated to do on 1-6.

They are not legally obligated to choose electors for any State. They do not have that authority.

But it also appears that some people had completely different plans. Radical violent plans. They came in tactical gear like they thought they were in some kind of movie or something. Like they thought suddenly nothing else matters, such as laws, and they had this cause, mistaken as it was, and they were going to 'save America.' They had planning, they had weapons, some of them had radio communications, and they planned to stop at nothing to shut down what Congress was doing even if it meant violence.

Antifa and BLM.

They went up against a police line and fought with the police defending the Capitol.

They intended to shut down the function of the United States Government, and force the government to do what they wanted instead.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Wednesday morning that he will oppose a commission to investigate the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, calling the bipartisan proposal “slanted and unbalanced.”

The commission would consist of 10 independent experts who would investigate the causes of the Capitol riot and make recommendations to prevent it from happening again.

“There is, has been, and there will continue to be no shortage ― no shortage of robust investigations by two separate branches of the federal government,” McConnell said Wednesday. “It’s not at all clear what new facts or additional investigation yet another commission could actually lay on top of existing efforts by law enforcement and Congress.”
