Leftists ruin Thanksgiving

People with "Leftists" on the brain. A majority of historians are liberals (i.e. that terrible word, "leftists") and it's thanks largely to them we know about the origins of Thanksgiving. As for killing Indians, greedy, land grabbers in the Righty mold did more than their share.

How many "indigenous people" have you paid reparations to so far?

Why should we care about stories over 250 years ago that were questionable then and less dependable now? Surprise people. there is no Santa Claus either.

THIS IS REAL. IT'S NOT A JOKE

Thanksgiving Day is here, and as is the fashion, it’s taking a beating.

“What is Thanksgiving to Indigenous People? ‘A Day of Mourning,’” writes the onetime daily Bible of American mass culture, USA Today.

The Washington Post fused a clickhole headline format with white guilt to create, “This tribe helped the Pilgrims survive for their first Thanksgiving. They still regret it 400 years later.”

Even the pundits who didn’t rummage in the past in search of reasons for Americans to flog themselves this week found some in the future, a la the Post’s climate-change take on Turkey Day menus: “What’s on the Thanksgiving table in a hotter, drier world?”

MSNBC meanwhile kept us all festive by reminding us, with regard to the now-infamous Pilgrims, that “Instead of bringing stuffing and biscuits, those settlers brought genocide and violence”.

In the space of a generation America has gone from being a country brimming with confidence, to one whose intellectual culture has turned into an agonizing, apparently interminable run of performative self-flagellation.

But the historical self-mortification has gotten out of hand. We’re now living through the moronic inverse: America is such a unique evil, we’re told, so much the standard-bearer for the oppression of innocent peoples everywhere, that human suffering before 1776 is hardly worth mentioning. Or before 1492.

Such mental habits are the fashion now and will definitely put you in a bind on Thanksgiving.

How can I eat turkey and stuffing with a smile, when Columbus massacred the Arawaks?

When the English forced the Wampanoags off their land and made many convert to Christianity?

When Lincoln told Horace Greeley, “If I could save the Union without freeing any slave, I would do it”?

How?

Maybe because you’re more than three years old, and don’t need fairy tales to be real in order to enjoy dinner with family and a football game?

We don’t ask Russians how they can sit around the yelochka every New Year and open presents knowing that Ivan the Terrible used to roast prisoners in giant frying pans, or how they can smoke Belomorkanal cigarettes knowing the White Sea canal is filled with the bones of slave laborers. I think even most MSNBC anchors would agree, that would be stupid.

But we do this to ourselves all the time now, and every year it gets worse.

Oh! This is a real thing?

A shame tight ass Right wingers feel Leftists have ruined Thanksgiving for them. Leftists themselves, not having a problem with seeing history in perspective, seem to enjoy it just fine.

Post a disturbing meme and say it is representative of 60% of the US. Makes you wonder who the fuck is buying all the turkeys.

Thanksgiving is a religious holiday.

If you hate it, leave.

Go to North Korea!

DEMOCRATS have been against Thanksgiving from the start

When Americans across North and South gather for Thanksgiving around tables laden with turkey and cranberries, perhaps the biggest regional disagreement centers on stuffing versus dressing.

It was not always so. In the runup to the Civil War, there was strong resistance in the DEMOCRAT South toward Thanksgiving itself.

“With the whole prospect of a showdown over the expansion of slavery, there was more and more rhetoric coming out of the South charging that Thanksgiving was pretty much a Yankee abolitionist holiday,” said James C. Cobb, professor emeritus of history at the University of Georgia.

The idea of celebrating a traditional northern holiday became more contentious in the 1850s with the heightening temperature of the national slavery debate.

“Thanksgiving was, above all, a New England holiday, and New England was abolitionist territory,” as Diana Karter Appelbaum put it in her book “Thanksgiving: An American Holiday, an American History.”

Those who urged their fellow Americans to celebrate Thanksgiving as a national ritual were the founders of the Republican Party strongly linked to the abolitionist movement. As anti-slavery sentiment swelled in the 1840s, many Northern ministers took the opportunity of Thanksgiving to rail against the moral wrongs of slavery.

DEMOCRATS, in turn, pushed back against the idea of Thanksgiving. Resistance to the holiday was particularly strong in Virginia, where DEMOCRAT leaders viewed their state, not New England, as the cradle of the American nation.

In 1853, DEMOCRAT Virginia Gov. Joseph Johnson refused to declare a day of Thanksgiving.

A few years later, his successor, Gov. Henry A. Wise, a slave owner who was a DEMOCRAT at the time, described Thanksgiving as a “theatrical national claptrap”.

It was not until the middle of the Civil War that Thanksgiving was declared a national holiday.

On Oct. 3, 1863, Republican Abe Lincoln issued a proclamation in celebration of a “year filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies” to establish the first national day of Thanksgiving.

Even after the Civil War came to an end, few DEMOCRATS celebrated Thanksgiving. Resistance to the idea of celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday hung on through Reconstruction.
