Students at AZ State Univ. demand Rittenhouse be EXPELLED.

The reason that degrees in business, engineering, science and related degrees are valued is because of the blood, sweat and tears involved in getting those degrees. I know.

Yes indeed. To get a degree in physics you have to be smart to begin with and then spend years of study on it. Any dummy can get a degree in history or polysci or french lit.

Almost no one these days gives a flying fuck about getting an education, what they are buying is a credential and a life experience.

As you should know.

!

A significant number of people still can get an education in schools and colleges despite the efforts to indoctrinate.

You are reading this because you went to school and learned to read. You seem to discount that.
You can figure out that 1/2 inch plus 1-1/4 inches makes 1-3/4 inches because you learned some math. You seem to discount that.
You are writing correctly formed sentences and your spelling is pretty good. You seem to discount that.
You are familiar with several aspects of Western culture, such as the fall of Rome, and heard or people like Galileo, Newton, Kepler, and Einstein. Even if you don't what they did and why, you can probably cite some of the equations they came up. You seem to discount that.

Schools are not a total wasteland. The indoctrination problem is real; I am not discounting that at all. But it's not like schools have become completely useless either.

Schools still turn out engineers, doctors, lawyers, programmers, welders, mechanics, etc. that are actually decently competent upon graduating. Of course, a degree is no guarantee of competence. I have found lawyers that couldn't present a competent case in court, doctors that are more hocus pocus than medicine, electrical and electronics engineers that don't know which end of a soldering iron to hold, Aeronautics engineers that are still trying to figure out what the wings are for, mechanics so bad that others stay on the other side of the shop from at all times so when the accident happens they aren't hurt by it, etc.

In Japan, they use a lot of Kanji from China. One of them is the one for 'student'. It is a pictograph of a child with X's being poured into their head as if it were knowledge.

Nothing could be further from the truth about the learning process.

To learn, you must be:

a) willing to learn. This is not as simple as it sounds. There is a reason masters of a craft look for this, especially in Japan and China, before accepting a disciple (student). If your head is full of yourself, you cannot learn. The counterpart of this of course is that the master must already have a reputation of competence.

b) Study and practice, which only the student can do. The instructor is a guide and resource, like a good book. That's all. Note that arrogant instructors cannot teach. Teaching is also learning from your students!

c) Take the time to do it. Learning isn't an instant cereal or pill you can pop. It takes time to develop the skills and the knowledge. Only the student can do this. There are no shortcuts.

d) Realize that any credential is only as good as the reputation of the master. It is nothing more than a master pronouncing that you have satisfied his requirements for a certain level of skill.

e) Recognize the 'Guild' or other collection of masters. They can instantly see you for what you are, no matter how you try to hide behind your credential. Recognize that learning does not stop at the end of any school or college. Whether you become a doctor, a lawyer, an engineer, or a mechanic, that 'Guild' is still there.

Note that putting condoms on bananas does not teach anything except how to play with bananas and condoms. This is politics, not the competence of any master. It is indoctrination, not education.

You've been through school with your wits still intact. You see the incompetence here instantly.

But you have become jaded. You have worked yourself into a false dilemma fallacy. There is still good in schools, despite their problems.

After all, most liars... err, lawyers get degrees in the first two because all that counts getting into law school is good grades. Any old degree will do because it's just a simple liberal art...

The reason that degrees in business, engineering, science and related degrees are valued is because of the blood, sweat and tears involved in getting those degrees. I know.

They are valued only if they are issued by a school that is valued. No degree in business, engineering, science or anything else is a guarantee of competence.

I know many with business degrees that can't seem to figure out how to run a business. They start and fail in business all the time.
I know many mechanical engineers that are incapable of handling a drill press or lathe.
I know many electrical engineers that have no idea which end of a soldering iron to hold.
I know many 'climate scientists'. They have nothing to do with science. They are actually high priests.

These guys are as worthless as someone with a sociology or gender studies degree.

It takes more than a degree to be competent.

It's also because they give the person obtaining them education in things that are highly useful to employers and society after graduation.

Maybe, maybe not.

Of course, there is always some government willing to pay for a 'climate scientist', even though it has nothing to do with science.
There is always some government willing to pay for an incompetent doctor that couldn't cure a case of untied shoes. Fauci is a good example of that one. He hasn't practiced in literally decades. He's just a bureaucrat now, guided by his Handlers.

Well, when it comes to electrical engineers, all I've cared about on their drawings and calculations is that they stamped it and it got me the necessary permits... Bureaucrats want that stamp to issue permits. The drawings can be complete garbage, but I can fix that as I go with "As builts." So what if the end drawings are a sea of red ink. I don't give a shit.

Governments run prisons and prisons need doctors too. Maybe Fauci could start a new career in one. He'd be better than the death penalty!

So you see college as an apprenticeship for a future job. The fact is it is an opportunity to learn many things including history and Poli Sci. Being more worldly and knowledgeable is a merit.

Void argument fallacy. Buzzword fallacy.
There is no such thing as 'political science'. There are NO theories in science about politics. Science has no politics. It has no religion. It is completely agnostic.

Colleges don't teach history much. They tend to teach fiction as 'history'.

You deny history, even recent history.

Being worldly and being knowledgeable are completely unrelated. Non-sequitur fallacy.

In terms of knowing about the world, history, politics and writing.
Since you don't know about the world, history, governmental structures or even the Constitution; that by itself means you are uneducated.
it is very valuable. Engineers are terrible writers.
A documentation engineer is a real thing. They are engineers. Many are excellent writers.
They are conservative, even right wing.
Irrelevance fallacy.
That shows such a lack of knowledge.
Non-sequitur fallacy. You are only showing your own lack of knowledge. Inversion fallacy.

You make shit up like a kid. I suspect you might even believe the crap you throw at us. I feel sorry for you.

That's why they hire a liberal arts major at a fraction of the cost to clean up their writing.
If they hire one at all. Too many liberal arts majors can't write or spell.
The engineers are too busy doing stuff that's important to waste their time making sure what they write is grammatically correct.
Documentation engineers are a real thing. These people act to 'translate' the technical aspects of a product or service into English. A valuable skill. That IS what they spend time on.
Maybe that's why engineers invented spelling and grammar checking computer programs, so they don't have to waste money on a liberal arts major...
Also true. It's also why engineers developed translation aids to foreign languages too. These tools help take some of the load off the few engineers that know the foreign language and some of the language being translated from.

Is that your concept of logic" A documentation engineer, whatever that is, can write, therefore engineers are good writers. Shitty writing skills are what would make a "documentation engineer necessary.

We used translators.
