Bonkers Truth About Trump’s Hitler Claim Revealed

The “presidential historian” who made the comparison has been unmasked—and it’s even more bonkers than you’d think.

The source of a document President Donald Trump proudly wielded that compares him favorably to Adolf Hitler, Genghis Khan, and other vicious leaders has been revealed.

The president, 80, bizarrely shared on Truth Social early this morning a document from someone named “Dave King” that suggested Trump is more dangerous than several notorious historical figures because he has a greater “global reach”.

“Presidential Historian Dave King — Sounds good to me!” Trump wrote on Truth Social Thursday, paired with the assessment.

Now the truth has been disclosed. CNN reported that Trump had actually touted that document months earlier, during an interview with New York Times journalists Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan—who have identified “Presidential Historian Dave King” as golfer Gary Player’s longtime caddy and personal confidant. The fact is in their new book.

Apparently, King presented the president with the two-page document during an event honoring Player, a Hall of Fame golfer who is now 90. And in Trumpworld, apparently, that was as good as fact.

King told the New York Times’ journalists that he “had first shared his assessment of Trump’s power with Player and later explained it directly to Trump over golf in Florida,” according to their forthcoming book Regime Change, which was obtained by CNN.

In response to an inquiry from the Daily Beast, the White House said: “Refer you to the TRUTH.”

King writes that “powerful” people were historically characterized by “brutal conquest and the fear that they instilled in the populations” during their reigns.

Grok:

The hostile coverage (Daily Beast, CNN panels laughing, etc.) treats this as unhinged self-comparison or endorsement of dictators.

That's overblown sensationalism for clicks/outrage:

  • The document isn't praising Hitler et al. as role models. It uses them as benchmarks of historical "power" defined narrowly as conquest + fear + territorial control. The argument is that Trump exceeds them in scale because of 21st-century tools (global economy, military tech, communications, sanctions, etc.). U.S. presidents command unmatched capabilities: nuclear arsenal, dollar dominance, alliances, intelligence, etc. This is a common (if crude) observation in foreign policy realism—modern superpowers dwarf pre-modern empires in raw capacity. Genghis Khan didn't have ICBMs, aircraft carriers, or SWIFT.
  • Trump's "Sounds good to me!" endorses the power ranking, not moral equivalence or admiration for the dictators' methods/crimes. Trump has repeatedly condemned Hitler, Stalin, Mao, etc., as evil (e.g., in speeches, Holocaust remembrance, etc.). Critics often twist any discussion of "strong" leadership or deterrence into "he loves dictators." Hyperbolic flattery from a non-expert golf acquaintance doesn't redefine Trump's record.
  • Source credibility: calling Dave King a "Presidential Historian" is silly marketing. He is a Scottish-born South African businessman (former Rangers FC chairman, investor), longtime friend and occasional caddy/confidant to golfer Gary Player (they've had business ties and a past legal dispute over a loan that was settled). King has caddied for Player at the Masters multiple times. He shared his views with Player then Trump (reportedly over golf or at a Player event). Haberman and Swan's forthcoming book Regime Change (out ~June 23, 2026) details Trump showing the two-page document in a March 2026 interview.

This is classic Trump: boastful, unfiltered, enjoying superlatives. Media amplifies it into "he's literally Hitler" territory (ironic, given the document lists him as surpassing). It reveals more about Trump's ego and media incentives than any new policy danger.

Trump should be disgusting himself, but he is just not sufficiently in touch with reality for that to happen.

Anyway, whoever wrote the piece at The Beast screwed up the passage, "Apparently, King presented the president with the two-page document during an event honoring Player, a Hall of Fame golfer who is now 90. And in Trumpworld, apparently, that was as good as fact."

Arnie is dead...has been since 2016 when he died at age 87. Apparently it is King who is now 90, which is not the way the sentence reads.
