Sounds like a personal problem. I just bought a $30-ish part from a company in England for my Lotus. The duties, paperwork, and such came to nearly $100. Shipping was like $10. The UK has gone insane.

Importing stuff to the USA has gone insane. It is impossible to predict how much anything will cost. That being said, it is not the UK imposing these duties on us. It is the dork you support.

MRE cost almost 10 times as much as SNAP, so I really question the point to creating a whole new distribution system, with all the overhead, to distribute them.

What? MRE's individually cost $3 to $5 to produce each. SNAP (aka "Food Stamps") is a monthly sum given to participants to spend on food items. What a participant buys with that stipend varies wildly.

I would suggest to fix many problems with SNAP that what can be purchased be severely restricted and that all participants (getting excepted out of this being very difficult) are required to take cooking and other 'home economics' classes. Initially, these could be on-line classes that are backed up by in-person ones where the participant has to demonstrate proficiency to continue in the program.

Wrong! It is the half inch thick pile of paperwork that comes with the package. The UK bureaucracy is insane. That is all on the UK. Getting something from France is far easier. With the Germans, they are very efficient but slow. It can take 5 to 8 weeks to get something through their customs system for export. In fact, the paperwork usually shows up weeks before the package.

I ship products all over the world. Shipping something from the United States TO the UK is far more complicated and expensive then shipping anything FROM the UK to the United States.
