Gasoline was never $5/gal in 2022. The peak price that year was $4.063/gal, the record high price in the history of gasoline futures.

The price of local gasoline at the pump is higher only due to taxes and local or regional shortages.

Since refineries shut down in the SDTC, there is insufficient refinery capacity in the Western half of the United States, causing a regional shortage. There is also very limited pipeline capacity due to ecologists interfering, necessitating shipping gasoline and oil by rail throughout the Western half of the United States.

EVs are no panacea either, particularly in the SDTC, due to insufficient generating capacity there. They are part of WRIC, but they import most of their power through two overloaded lines. If something trips them, the WRIC will disconnect the SDTC. They will not sacrifice themselves to save the SDTC. Most likely to happen when load is higher in hot summer days, and a sagging line causes a brush fire.

The southern line is seeing reduced generating capacity due to low water levels in the Colorado river system, so more and more the SDTC is dependent on the sole remaining power line.

And they have the gall to complain about how unstable the TRIC is.

4 dollar gas is bad when a Dem is in office. Fine when Trump is. High-priced eggs are bad for Dems, of no consequence for Repubs. Inflation making life tough is grounds for brooming Dems. Meaningless when it is Trump's bad policies causing it.
