Elitests!

No tell me. I cant wait

Context mean an actual environment, people talking to each other.
Use means how is the word being used.

Someone writes on a piece of paper, it is raining. Two hours later it is not raining. Is the statement false? It was true when it was written down. False now when it is no longer raining.

Here's the dichtomy to me (and I'm not directing this at you personally, I'm speaking to 'people' in general). You have people saying they want someone from humble beginnings while mocking people who didn't go to college, or don't have elite educational backgrounds, and mock 'flyover state trash' and things like that.

So there's this idealism (i want someone from humble beginnings) meeting real world (you're trash).
I do not hear anyone mockign people who did not go to College any more. Personally I have great respect for many people who did not go to college, some did not really need to.

I guess I am an idealist. I do not care where it comes from, but I would not vote for a president who was not well educated.

I believe Obama and Harris came from the middle class, but one thing they have in common is that there parents saw the value in education. Many Americans, consciously or unconsciously, believe elite status = value as a person. Many see a wealthy person and thinks because they are wealthy they must be smart, or hard working or whatever else. I do not see that when I see a wealthy person. Sure plenty of wealthy people are smart and hardworking, but one does not equal the other.

I've heard people say they like Trump because he is a GREAT BUSINESSMAN, from what I've seen... nothing could be further from the truth.

So in this environment you are not compelled for any reason to tell the truth and in fact, lying better suits the situation which is to prove me wrong.

This board is a great example to me of mocking those who didn't go to college, or places where the Universities aren't considered elite. And it's all driven by politics. They have data for how people vote based on age, race, and many other factors including education. So that's where this comes from.

I don't think wealth translates into elite. There are people who have worked hard all their life, saved etc. and have a very nice nest egg when they retire. But there is nothing elite about them per se. (unless you literally mean wealthy, not rich)

And there are people who aren't rich, but have exceptional academic pedigrees and hold important positions that are elite.

I see people in San Francisco who have incredible academic credentials and make boat loads of money, and they are sh*t human beings (and that has nothing to do with politics). Mott the Hoople used to talk about some of his neighbors in rural Ohio who were not well educated and not the most sophisticated, but were just the salt of the earth and would give you the shirt off their back. The people Mott is talking about often get called trash etc.

I get things change when discussing politics but for me once the discussion is about individual politicians and trying to create a narrative around them, principle goes out the window.

You and I agree.

I consider most people are actually elite in one way or another. I do not think that is the same "elite" the Trumppers rail against.

We’re all elite in God’s eyes but the word sort of loses its meaning if applied to everyone.

Here’s Nikole Hannah Jones railing against NYC’s elite two years ago (before yesterday’s mea culpa).

So you knew he didn't get an academic or athletic scholarship based on his achievements in the 1st - 4th grades in post 70 !
Good god, you are clueless. Reading is fundamental. Initially, I got my info from Search Assist in post 55. Then Cawacko said the scholarship fund didn't exist when Obama was in school, post 56. Next I acknowledged the error in post 59 and said I'd check further. Finally, in post 64 I said that after researching, I learned that Obama's grandfather pulled strings to get him into the school and helped pay his tuition. Because you ignored all that, you made your stupid comment in post 175.

Stick to trolling. You're worthless when it comes to real discussion.

What worth is it when you post something as fact without checking? Just asking.

I checked and this was the answer I got, along with more of the same from different sources. After Cawacko corrected me I went back and dug deeper to find out about Obama's grandfather helping.

Barack Obama attended Punahou School, a private school in Hawaii, with the help of a scholarship provided by the Children's Scholarship Fund, which assists low-income families in sending their children to private schools. This support allowed him to receive a quality education despite his family's financial challenges. Obama used a scholarship to attend Punahou School.

Not picking on you believe it or not. Will kick it up a notch though. It was his white grandparents that made that happen. His getting in and paying cash for the rest of his tuition. History never seems to acknowledge that fact.

Meltdown on aisle 176.
