Trump supports foreign companies?

Trump supports foreign companies?

Yeah — when they bring billions of dollars here, build factories here, use American raw materials and hire American workers. Apparently the preferred kind of foreign investment is supposed to be buying our Treasury debt and helping finance Washington instead? You left wing idiots never cease to amaze me with the sophomorics behind your views

There are so many things with this that are not mentioned.

Messabi Metallics is an Indian owned company.
They currently have over three quarters of billion dollars in federal backed loans thanks to Trump.
Their parent company declared bankruptcy in 2016 to try to retain mining leases.
They have have a history of failing to live up to their claims which resulted in losing mining leases.
They were scheduled to start producing iron pellets this month but that has now been pushed back as they failed to meet that deadline.

And take the profits offshore

When Trump gives them almost a billion dollars, they aren't exactly bringing money here. You idiots believe Trump without checking the details.

Messabi hopes to produce 7 million tons of pellets per year with a possible expansion to 18 million tons. Kind of hard to make 10 million tons of steel with 7 million tons of pellets.

And the suckers figure this time he will actually do what he says he will do.

This is a private investment project, it's not government run.

Now many a company have announced bold plans and visions that ultimately don't come to fruition. So while it's certainly exciting to hear, nothing is guaranteed.

Is there anything in particular about the company or this deal you don't care for? (not a rhetorical question)

I didn't realize the federal government giving them $770 billion in loans was a "private investment."

Nice sidestep. My point was that yes, we want foreign investment in the United States. You mocked Trump for supporting a foreign-owned company, then immediately changed the subject when that sounded stupid.

Mesabi is an American company owned by India-based Essar, and the announced Iowa project is a $15 billion investment in American steelmaking, using Minnesota ore and employing Americans.

And federal financing doesn’t somehow reverse that. EXIM finances projects through loans and guarantees; in this case it is financing Mesabi’s U.S. mining and processing operation.

So yes: I’d much rather have foreign capital coming here to build productive assets — even where we help finance the project — than have foreigners merely buying Treasury debt so Washington can finance more deficits.

But by all means, keep lecturing everyone about “checking the details” while avoiding the point you were actually responding to.

Timeline: Slated to begin production by 2030...

2030?! Four whole years?! Better alert the historians.

The Quad Cities–Chicago passenger train got federal funding in 2010 and was supposed to be running around 2015. We’re now in 2026, and every few years Illinois holds another press conference announcing that, yes, the train is still totally coming.

Pritzker just had another victory lap after another $475 million was secured for it in late 2025. Maybe this time the ceremonial check comes with an actual train.

So spare me the “2030 is forever away” meme. Iowa understands promises made are rarely promises kept

Wake me when the Amtrak Groundhog sees his shadow again.

If the government were to give Mesabi $770 billion, that would be the largest loan ever given by the federal government. That would exceed the amount announced for the TARP program.

That said my wording could have been better in saying this is a deal done by a private company, it's not a government run project.

I just consider Trump to be full of shit. I would not trust one of his promises any more than I would trust Lucy to let Charlie Brown kick that football.

So we can add "whataboutism" along with "gaslighting" to the checklist in your bag of tricks.

Cool. 👍🏼

But that's standard MAGA issue anyway.
