Aetna CEO: Obamacare 'cannot be repealed, period'

The ACA cannot be repealed, period, end of sentence," Bertolini told CNBC's "Closing Bell" on Thursday.

"What we should do is fix it. So either everyone gets their heads together over in the Senate and the House and does the job that the American people needs them to do, and fix what we already have, or they should move on to something else," he said.

"It's really easy to fix this if they would just get over the politics of who is going to win the '18 election."

For Aetna to rejoin the Obamacare markets, Bertolini says, the system needs to become more stabilized

Of source he doesn't want single payer. He is in the business of making a profit off selling insurance. He's the CEO of a large private insurance company, with a vested interest in lobbying against single payer.

Other than that...

I assume that means you agree with the Aenta CEO that Obamacare is not going to be repealed, and fixing any shortcomings it has would be relatively easy.

Of course a CEO of a private insurance company is going to say single payer is horrible. He is in the business of making a profit for a private insurance company.


The facts are in direct conflict with his assertion. Every civilized, modern country that has single payer has lower health care costs, and often better healthcare outcomes than we do.

Now, so you think Obamacare is going to be repealed?

1.) The CEO is correct. Changing who pays the bill will do nothing to lower healthcare costs.

2.) Those 'civilized' countries with single payer are about the size of Alabama, so the comparison is non-proportional.

3.) I hope so. It's a disaster.
