Democratic Party: 44.9 million votes
Republican Party: 32.9 million votes

Democrats didn’t just take more seats, they took an enormously greater number of votes. Democrats carried both the House and the Senate with vote margins of greater than 9 percent. That’s bigger than the Republican “wave” elections in 2010, or even 1994. It’s a massive margin of victory. Massive.

California is the largest state in the Union and had two Democrats running for the Senate seat. So Republicans got zero votes in California but it's irrelevant, it's still one Senate seat.

Do what you have to do to make yourself feel good but those numbers are basically meaningless.

I'm an old white man who's voted straight blue tickets since 1968 only because there was no eighteen-year-old vote in 1964.

I'm not racist, not politically or socially conservative or regressive, not xenophobic, not homophobic, not misogynist,

but really sick and tired

of people who claim to have values similar to mine
continue to insult me for being an old white man.

Yawns. Super majorities in some places do not get you an award in other places. What should scare both parties is that in 2016, i addition to the 5% or so of third party voters, 2% of people refused to vote for any presidential candidate when they went to the polls. 7% voter loss is a pretty loud repudiation of both parties.

Florida just got 5% of their blue voters back when they changed the constitution to show the love.

Florida just said that if you screwed up and got convicted of a non-violent felony, after you have served your time, stayed clean, and paid your complete debt to society, that society will return you the right to vote.

Before yesterday, 1 in 5 blacks in Florida did not have the right to vote. That has changed. And that one State Constitutional Amendment could change the direction of the country. Trump won Florida by 1% in 2016. Florida came within 1% of turning blue yesterday.

Repudiation is repudiation and nothing more.
It's not getting one single fucking thing done.

To do that, you have to pick one of the major parties and take it over the way the teabaggers and the trumpanzees took over the Republican Party.

Once the Democrats weed out their McKaskill-Manchin type moderates and get serious about progressive action, we'll get something done too.

Anti-trumpanzees who don't vote BLUE are unwitting pro-trumpanzees...and should be treated accordingly.

I disagree, popular vote totals are a great indicator of where the country is going

and the fact the Dem margin was even larger than 2010 reinforces my opinion
