Wages drop despite economic boom

Has nothing to do with tax cuts. As baby boomers at the higher end of the income brackets retire, it is only natural that average wages decline since those people are a huge chunk of the worker demographic. A lot of expansion at the lower end doesn't offset a contraction at the higher end.

Six months after the Tax Cut and Jobs Act became law, there's still little evidence that the average job holder is feeling the benefit.

Worker pay in the second quarter dropped nearly one percent below its first-quarter level, according to the PayScale Index, one measure of worker pay. When accounting for inflation, the drop is even steeper. Year-over-year, rising prices have eaten up still-modest pay gains for many workers, with the result that real wages fell 1.4 percent from the prior year, according to PayScale. The drop was broad, with 80 percent of industries and two-thirds of metro areas affected.

"Now, economic confidence has been good, we're in a strong economy, GDP is growing, but the question has been, where's the paycheck?" said Katie Bardaro, vice president of data analytics at PayScale.

The answer is, largely, in the companies' coffers. Businesses are spending nearly $700 billion on repurchasing their own stock so far this year, according to research from TrimTabs. Corporations set a record in Q2, announcing $433 billion worth of buybacks — nearly doubling the previous record, which was set in Q1.

oh, but rube that is one of the arguments the white Christer party used used, free up money from the corps via tax cuts and they will be able to spend on their workers

remember a few company's gave out bonuses because corporate taxes were cut , the slope skulled rubes were all excited about them now going to get bigger pay checks

I am just glad you recognize that the economy is "booming" under the leadership of President Trump. Considering many leftists predicted economic calamity upon his election and subsequent tax cuts, it represents a tremendous admission on your part. I tip my had to you

Now as to the tax cut argument. I have long since had disdain for the "cutting taxes creates jobs" as a means for arguing tax cuts. Not because it can't happen, but because job creation is tied to economic growth. And yes, economically freeing up more capital should grow the economy which should in turn lead to more jobs and higher wages. But, the economy is a dynamic organism that is not moved alone based on one single solitary action.

I would prefer that arguments over taxation be made on moral grounds. Money is essentially property and is a function of someone's labor. As such I believe that the argument should center around how much of your labor do you think the government should be able to take from your for "essential goods"?

My personal preference is that no individual ever pay more than 20% of his income to the federal government and everyone on the economic spectrum should be made to pay SOMETHING in federal income taxes (spare me the FICA tax argument)
 
why didn't the tax cuts work like the right claimed it would?

Which is why people ought to be actively working to keep people like you and the people you support from coming to office...because you have no sense of feeling or regard for your fellow human beings. YOU are what you suggested earlier I am...an "I've got mine, fuck you" kind of person.

The ideology of people like you has got to be erased from planet Earth...even if it means erasing people like you from planet Earth.

We are all in this together...and have to learn to act like we are. We cannot have one kid with all the toys...and ten others with none...NO MATTER THE CIRCUMSTANCES THAT GOT THE TOYS TO THAT ONE KID.

Here is the the problem with your ideology. It is rooted in selfishness and greed for what others have attained. You try to shroud it in "helping the less fortunate". But, that never really works out does it? The less fortunate always stay less fortunate no matter how much money you extract from your fellow citizens to satisfy your conscience.

Let me ask you. Is there a percentage of income that you think is too much for the federal government to take? If 20% isn't enough, how much would be enough? Is there a percentage of your income that the government could confiscate that you would personally balk at?

This whole "we are all in this together" sounds very noble and pure, but it doesn't pan out in reality. And you really don't believe it. It is what you tell yourself to help assuage the guilt you might have for wanting others to pay your way.

Now here is where you tell me that you don't want others to pay your way. You are well off. No, yours are altruistic goals. You only seek to help those less fortunate. Yet, I doubt you spend much of your own wealth reaching those aims. You and your ilk always seem to want someone else to foot the bill

You are just filled with question...aren't you!

I'll offer a few comments...and then let you pick out the two questions you most want answered...and deal with them until they are resolved...then allow you to ask me two more.

First the few comments:

I am far from wealthy, in fact I am living at the poverty level. I do a bit of modeling...and just did a gig for living at the poverty level...for which I had to establish that I was. The only thing I "take" is my Social Security payment...which is very modest. I have worked all my life and supported myself without the dole or anything like it. I am still doing that.

I live a decent life...don't have much in the way of wants. I treasure what I have...and even though essentially broke, I often manage to toss a few bucks to people who obviously need them.

I offer my time and effort in place of money...working as a HARD WORKING volunteer on several commissions and boards in our town. I've been at various times chairman of the Traffic Commission; chairman of the Cultural Arts Commission; member of the Bikeways Commission; Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Community Television Station; working crew member of the TV station; and on-air member also. (I've retired from most of this at this point.)

When I was a Democrat (yeah, I was one at one time) I chaired the Sign Committee...the guys that did the grunt work to get people elected to office. Lots of hard work to do before and after each election.

Enough of that.

Give me your two questions. I'll shut out that condescending bullshit tone you bring to them and give you a response.
