Why are the radicalized right wing extremists obsessed with Justin Smollett?

The story made national news when it occurred with many democratic presidential candidates tweeting out about it calling it a modern day lynching etc. What would you expect to occur when it was found out to be false?

Just wondering why liberals are being criticized for believing Smollett when it's no different from what the cops believed at first.

When you come out yelling “it’s a modern day lynching” based off initial claims and then say after it’s been proven wrong “let’s wait for all the facts to come out” it begs the question why not wait for the facts to come out from the beginning?

Then let me say that whether or not they believed him they were obligated to treat it as real until evidence showed otherwise.

If you recall, they did come out at one point and say it wasn't phony.

What many said was this story didn’t pass the sniff test and they turned out to be correct. The story was outlandish.

Saying the initial story didn’t didn’t pass the sniff test is not the same as declaring it a high tech lynching etc.

This is all hindsight. I didn't find it strange that this could be a racist attack, given the way the country's been going.
