America Fixates On 500 Assholes Instead Of Healing

Reply to post number one.

Obviously, this "only 500 Nazis" catch phrase is something that made it's rounds in the rightwing media to minimize what happened, and is being dutifully parroted by Drump's fan boys on the interwebs as we speak.

The problem is far more serious than 500 buck toothed, neo-nazi hillbillies.

The problem is we have a President and a conservative political movement that provide safe harbor and make common cause with American fascists, racists, islamophobes, and homophobes.

I don't see any reason to make any palpable distinction between self-professed racists, and those who provide them safe harbor.

Every day, of every week, of every month, you have the worst kind a blatant racism expressed on this board. And for the most part, conservatives here not only turn a blind eye to it, but engage, tolerate, and make common cause with obvious racists and stormfronter posters here.

You know what a decent person, a person who abhors racism, an ethical person would do?? They would tell these knuckle draggers to get the fuck out of the Republican Party, and the GOP does not want their votes, their money, or their support.

And that's exactly what Trump should have said.

APPLAUSE :hand::hand:

It was mighty kind of the neo-Nazis to hold a violent demonstration in Charlottesville as the US power establishment’s Russia narrative burns to ashes and the American war machine sets its chess pieces in place.

The demonstrations have been saturated in corporate media coverage, which has consistently ignored the growing mountain of evidence that our species is being imperiled by new cold war escalations because of a Russian hack that never happened.

Now everyone’s preoccupied with shaking their fists at 500 douchebags in self-righteous indignation instead of asking if they’ve been lied to by their government and the mass media propaganda machine for the last year.

And I mean, I get it. It’s so easy to point and screech condemnation at a group of obvious assholes, so satisfying, so socially rewarding. Your odds of finding someone in your social circle who agrees with you when you say are pretty much 100 percent, and it feels good to be united against a common enemy.

Why not dedicate a percentage of America’s massive public sector to truly fixing the damage caused by slavery, and to the genocide of indigenous tribes while you’re at it?

Don’t tell me there’s no money while the US has hundreds of military bases stretching all across the planet, drops bombs every single day on countries most Americans can’t find on a map, and pours billions upon billions of dollars into corporate welfare.
There’s money. You just don’t want to divert it toward this specific end.

So spare me your excitement over the 500 assholes in Charlottesville, you liberals and lefties who are more comfortable looking without than looking within.
Spare me your self-righteous tweets and your virtue signalling orgies, and instead turn your efforts toward something that will actually work
. What you’re doing is not working. Try something different.
There have been many great minds who have argued convincingly that money can be skillfully applied to righting the wrongs of America’s past, and it’s time to start considering their ideas.

In a system where money equals power, a ruling class necessarily emerges which is necessarily incentivized to keep the public poor in order to maintain their rule.
Power is relative, so the most revolutionary thing you can possibly do in a corporatist plutocracy like America is try to bring economic justice to the masses. This necessarily includes the descendents of the victims of America’s intrinsically white supremacist history.

Those 500 neo-Nazis aren’t bothered by your self-righteous indignation.
They’ll be bothered if you move your country into the exact opposite direction that they are trying to push it into.
You want to really stick it to these assholes? Stop feeding them attention and start insisting on reparations.

500 douchebags quietly, and sometimes not so quietly, being cheered on by millions of Trump douchebags ...
Racism is rampant in the Trump camp...
Russia is how he won...
Russia and financial espionage and international money laundering is what will bring him down.

I will say it more bluntly. The OP is horse shit and is a rationalization by those who would make common cause with evil.

Well evil reared its ugly head in Charlottesville and it was met by the strength of common decency by those who call evil by its name and will not tolerate it in their midst. To those who would make common cause with evil because of your trust in a demagogue be on notice. The leaders of both political parties have clearly called evil the racism and hate of you white supremacist and those who would give them safe harbor. Their is no place in American politics on either side of the aisle for your criminal acts of terrorism and treason. Go back into hiding like the low account cowards you are or be prepared to pay the consequences.

I've read some of her work before .. same disagreements. Reparations will never happen, and even if it did, it should come in the form of educational credits for higher learning. not dollars in the pocket.

Same question I would ask of her .. how do we deal with healing without dealing with the cancer? Ignoring the cancer is why America is still dealing with it's vile and racist past.

These right-wing assclowns aren't a threat to African-Americans more than they are a threat to the American way of life.

The wounds you think have been opened have never been closed .. and if you were sitting in different shoes, you wouldn't need me to tell you that.
interesting on reparations- a sidebar but it's never going to happen for many reasons.

we do not ignore racism;in fact i think there are many who don't want the wounds closed on both the extremes.

Obviously the skin heads can't exist without saying they are victims blah blah-but it's also obvious there are professional "race hustlers" ( for lack of a better term) like Sharpton who make their livelihood off racial conflicts.

Myself I think the answer is to de-emphasize it. We keep obsessing over it and it becomes more rampant.
Put it into a context we had before where it's weeded out/ameliorated with Affirm. Action and laws.
There are specific housing rules, etc. enforce them.

But tearing out all monuments to Confederate soldiers is by itself inflamatory to those of us who aren't racist
but see a problem with whitewashing our history.

I'm an originalist.
I can deal with racism being thrown at C. soldiers, what I find offensive is saying they had absolutely no right to fight for their cause, and honoring them as soldiers is inherently racist.

In other words..keep all this in perspective, and do not open wounds that want to heal by themselves
for whatever base reasons those who do so are problematic proximate causes

Heal by themselves??? Sorry, that's not even a serious thought.

Blacks have been in this country for over 400 years. How much longer do you think people should wait for things to heal by themselves?

No disrespect intended, but that's a cowards thinking. Dealing with racism is just too hard .. so lets just pretend we don't see it.

FUCK people who don't want racist monuments removed. This country does not belong to them.

Of course this is the left's M.O. conflate conservatism with the alt-right. Hence the need to label alll others as racist and deplorable.

That's not true. Clearly, with the exception of Trump, the leaders have called out the white supremacist as the evil they are and stand united in rejecting them as evil thugs, terrorist and an existential threat to all decent patriotic Americans. Left, Right or Center the vast majority of our political leaders have united in denouncing these rat bastards.

Make no mistake it is truly sad that there is evil in our midst that feel empowered to make their presence known. Yesterday the American public stood up, united in resolve, and rejected evil. It was sad that this happened but it was still a great day for America as evil was rejected by all decent Americans and by all major political leaders on both the left and right, conservative and liberals alike. As an American I feel pretty good about that. :)

The SPLC proves you to be a liar.

Hate groups have been on the rise since President Obama was elected. They didn't have to search far and wide to find racist white men like you.

It may be 500 of you on this board alone..........lmaooooooooo.

SPLC includes every as a hate group it doesn't agree with politically. It's too wide a measure.

If you support the travel restriction's Trump imposed ( after the ludicrous 9th and 4th appellate courts rulings)
it's considered racist/hate.

Like letting in people like the Manchester bomber from Libya to Great Britain was a good idea.

WTF you are as racist as they come.

This post is racist as fuck.

STFU liar.

It's talking about racist white men like you and those you support.

not at all what I'm saying. I'm saying the OBSESSION whereby racism is applied to even a legitimate Confederate monument like Robert E. Lee is as bad as skin heads digging up " we're not going to be replaced" rhetoric.

If you want healing you have to stop picking at the scab. That's how we treated the Confederate war memorials
after the Civil War. And I'm not talking about "southern heritage" crap or flying Conf flags over public lands.

do you recall the 100th anniversary of the Civil War back in the early 60's?
I do. they were treated as historical remembrances -and while we were still fighting Jim Crow; we had enough common sense to let the past speak for itself and not enflame by relitigating the Civil war.

I've mentioned Gettysburg before..Look at how monuments are used to impart honor for all soldiers.

Would you support building memorials to enemy generals from other wars/countries, or just CSA generals?

I miss you, mate!

CSA were Americans as in: the soldiers who fought the "American Civil War".
Lee fought as much for Virginia as any other cause

That's your perspective and I COMPLETELY DISAGREE with all that.

Obviously you don't know how movements work .. and don't look now, but the Left is winning. That movement is working.

I realize you disagree good brother. I'm not trying to sway you.
I am making the case for history being treated as such- no more and no less.

From all I see - including Trump many times- the 21st century is being run by idiots.
we'd rather froth Russiaphobia then confront China as an existential threat to Pax Americana.
they glom onto our world order, but use NK as a dangerous pawn ( etc.)

Telling me the left is winning is obvious, but not particularly persuasive an argument
