You're quite right. In the case of that job I held long, long ago (I was 20 at the time), I quit. I remained friends for a while with the married coworker whose husband put a stop to his harassment of her. She told me that the boss (who was married) began an affair with the young woman he hired to take my place. He ended up divorced, lost his job there, and in rehab for his alcoholism problem. I don't know why he lost his job. That was over 40 years ago. There were very few protections then for women in the work place, especially unmarried women.
