The credibility of Trump's accusers

I agree it's people like him who can scam a lie detector. He is 100% convinced he's always right, never lies, and never doubts himself. And if by some chance he flunked, he's say the results were faked or the machine wasn't working. He always has an excuse for what he does. It's pretty incredible.

I think to me the most incredible thing of all are the misguided fools who voted for him and his "Make America Great Again" bullshit. LIke the rest of us they've seen the decline of America's economy and our perceived standing in the world's POV. But they don't want to do the hard work it will take to truly make us great again. They'd rather vote for a sideshow barker who promises that he has a magic wand to relieve them/us from any responsibilty or hard work. He's just going to do a Harry Potter incantation and banish the horrid brown people, the horrid Muslims, the horrid liberals, the horrid regulations, the horrid environment, the horrid Chinese hoax climate change stuff, etc.

He's a medium-IQ person with an idiot savant thing going on....like $arah Palin. That is the ability to read the audience and then say what the audience wants to hear... and seem (at least to the marks) to really believe in the message. Their worshipers truly do not give a shit if what they say is bullshit.... as long as it's the bullshit they want to smell and believe.

Totally agree w/ the savant thing - he just has this instinct. He's not smart enough to really think something like that through & pull it off.

Back when I thought trump didn't even have a chance at getting nominated, I thought people liked him for the entertainment value. Then I thought they were confusing him with his Apprentice persona and supporting him because they believed he was tough and decisive. When trump actually got nominated, out of all those pubs who were to a man more qualified than him, that's when I really started to think he could win. It was really depressing.

My husband says that The Apprentice show is what gave him the win.... because unfortunately most of us are too fucking stupid to realize that how someone acts on a stupid reality game show is just how they are in real life. He wasn't nearly as shocked and appalled as I was last November.

No, he's not. You're right. But he's got the money to buy people who are that smart. But not smart enough to not be their puppets.... like Bannon who controls his strings.

From what I gather from intrepid rightwing message boarders, the women who make accusations of sexual assault against Democratic men are credible victims, while women who make accusations of sexual assault against Republican men are ruthless liars.

Not me. I'd rather see and hear evidence and fair trials for all of them. There's way too much piling on to the guys here and women wanting to join this #me too club.

I never watched the show. Some people don't believe it's just theatre and not how business really works. I was appalled that he won but not shocked. When I saw how people still supported him no matter how low and disgusting he got I became fatalistic. It wasn't just about Hillary but also the Khan business, Comey, Russia, trump saying if he lost he wouldn't accept the results. I swear the man was made of Teflon. It's been a hard year, every single day a new outrage or embarrassment from him.

On balance, from what I have observed liberals hold the moral high ground here. Liberals have put both Democratic men and Republican men on blast when there were credible allegations of sexual harassment.

But when you really think about it, liberals on this forum have held the moral high ground on most of the major issues of our generation (conservatives justifying torture, and invading Iraq comes to mind).

I am really just expecting at this point, conservatives to defend, provide cover, and rationalize Trump's proclivity for walking in unannounced on half-naked beauty pageant contestants

The liberals. The ones who have been screaming for years that morality can't be legislated or dictated by the government? All of a sudden they're acting like tent revival preachers and choir girls. Give me a break. They could not care less about morality. It's just all political moves and Trump.

And when was the conservative claim to the moral high ground ever "real"?

Not really. Just commenting that such claims by either party should be viewed skeptically. Each individual should be judged on their own merits; neither party owns values.

I'm sorry, but that is quite wrong.

Yes, in some technical sense - neither party is 'perfect'. So I guess you want to treat them equally. You know, the Nazis and their victims were both not perfect.

Democrats should be judged on their own merits, and viewed skeptically. Some are great, some are terrible, some are fair.

But Republicans are a whole other world. Their party is completely taken over by evil, powerful interests who they work for. They deserve no 'benefit of the doubt'. They constantly support disastrous, plutocratic, murderous policies without any shame.

They don't deserve 'skepticism' any more than a crack addict who has stolen from you 1,000 times deserves 'skepticism' when they say they took cash from your wallet to protect it from thieves the next time. They are utterly corrupt and a menace to society.
