You talk like leadership is a popularity contest. Leadership is being able to motivate people to get the job done. Patton was hated and feared by his troops but he was also respected and one of the greatest commanders we ever had. But believe what you will, it makes no difference to the big picture. Trump is Trump and nothing you nor I say can change that.

Oh I don't dispute that at all. Character and charisma go along ways when it comes to foreign affairs. And how nations look at us is mostly how they see the president, so yes on the world stage Trump is an embarrassment.:good4u:

It really has little to do w/ my own life. I've had a great year.

I look to the long term. Of course, we can survive Trump. But we're talking about a leader who has no problem whatsoever tearing down any longstanding institution we have for self-preservation. He is undermining our law enforcement, media, the State Dept., et al. Trump is redefining our basic concept of the truth, and (imo) not for the better. It's a world of "alternative facts" now. He is also someone who seeks to stoke hatred & division wherever he can, and has promoted discrimination with his rhetoric.

Overall, I see these things as being potentially very damaging to the nation. I think it's okay to be concerned about it. Whether you agree w/ what I wrote above or not, I don't think you'd disagree that he is fundamentally changing many things about our government and other aspects of how we do things. If you like Trump, you probably think it's for the better. I don't like him, and think it could have some very negative long-term ramifications.

Anything could be potentially damaging. I think Trump is an idiot, liar, poor leader etc. However, he seems to have finally surrounded himself with non party hacks for the most part.

Also, the way I understand the OP is not so much the future, rather how can we as individuals survive a Trump presidency and as you pointed out, so far it has been great for and I believe most people.

The overboard fear mongering is as bad as the far right under Obama.
