"Two major airlines. A cybersecurity firm. Six car rental brands. A home security company. An Omaha bank. Companies have scrambled to cut ties with the National Rifle Association over the past couple of days, and the list continued to grow into the weekend.

"Delta Air Lines (DAL) announced Saturday morning that it's ending discounted rates for NRA members. "We will be requesting that the NRA remove our information from their website," the company said in a tweet.

"United Airlines (UAL) followed a short time later, saying the company will no longer offer discounts on flights to the NRA annual meeting. "

I think it is possible the NRA is just a symptom of a larger sociological issue.
I think there is a saying about violence begats violence.

While this nation is nowhere near being on a par with history's despicable totalitarian regimes, we have nonetheless glorified violence, aggression, false bravado, bullying our neighbors, committing genocide on Indians, and settling international disputes with force. It goes back to the enslavement, rape, and subjugation of millions of Africans, and goes through the centuries straight to the time a subset of our population was cheering for the Iraq invasion, glorifying torture, and insisting the crimes of Abu Ghraib were absolutely necessary. There are posters on this board who have mentioned "nuking Mecca".

I mean, we have an orange-colored, popular vote-losing president whose first instinct to resolve the situation with North Korea is to "send an Armada" and to bomb them back to the stone age.

I guess we should not 'nuke' N. Korea or provoke them in any way....we ought to at the very least wait until they send their nukes to the S. Koreans, Hawaii, and maybe several cities in California before
we take any steps to deter them.....its just the right thing to do...we gotta take the high road.:innocent:

Definitely we have a severe societal issue with violence. The NRA is both a symbol of that illness, and it feeds it as well.

What do air marshals have to do with airlines canceling discounts with a discredited organization? You do realize that they are federal employees, not airline employees, right?

Yep...just added the airlines to my thread. I think La Pierre's asinine comments at CPAC sealed the NRA's fate. Not one iota of compassion for the families.

From the time pasty white Europeans landed on these shores, we have this superiority complex. Whereas the mindset you illustrate above is valid, many of today's problems stem from the fact that there's profit to be made from hatred/division.

I don't know what, if any, financial impact this will have on the NRA. It seems more symbolic than anything.... but it's a beginning.

You're right, more revenue, plus a statement of solidarity with the victims and their families. I have a choice of only two airlines when we fly out of here; one of them is Delta. It's going to be my preferred one now, and I plan to email them as to why.
