I have several friends from South Africa, and indeed another friend has just come back from the Karoo Desert. His team from Oxford University have been studying soil erosion there.

My Doctor is from SA and my wife an I have a couple friends from there. They say it's a great place to Vacation, so we're think about it. It's probably the one place we can go and not get any crap about our Moron in office.
Still, what they choose to do as a Government, has no impact on me.

The ANC, and South African politicians generally, are mostly inept and incompetent sadly. Witness how Israel, with long experience of handling droughts, was rebuffed when they recognised that Capetown was running out of water. That is indeed a metaphor for how corrupt and inept the ANC are, S.A. is virtually a one party state and is therefore destined to decline dramatically unless somebody competent take the reins.
Hopefully Ramaphosa can stop the rot, he at least knows about business having been a mine owner. He is also very wealthy, so hopefully won't be doctrinaire and destroy the economy.

Yes it is a beautiful country and is not Third World like much of Africa. However I am worried that Cyril Ramaphosa will not be able to resist hardliners like Julius Malema. The last thing Africa needs is yet another doctrinal Marxist one party state.

And the reason SA is not third world is because white people built it into a first world country. But with blacks in charge, it's turning into third world just like happened to former first world rhodesia, now zimbabwe. The Congo is also third world but 60 years ago under white rule, it was in good shape with lots of paved roads and hospitals.
