This lead post is a fount of abysmal ignorance, and feebly supported agenda.

a) Lethality in terminal ballistics is quantified in foot pounds of energy delivered to target.

b) I welcome anyone to quote anyone from the ostensible "terrified left" (the precise term used in the lead) asserting the AR-15 delivers more foot pounds to target than the most powerful shotgun, or perhaps more precisely, smooth-bore long gun.

c) The horrified left shares the conservative alarm at the carnage being perpetrated in our government schools.

d) The issue with the AR-15, the similar Bushmaster, and other high capacity assault STYLE carbines is NOT the foot pounds they deliver per round.

Instead it's the number of rounds it can deliver quickly.

And to prove my counterpoint I challenge Nugent or QT to a 60 second firing range contest.
The shotgunner can take take a shotgun like that depicted in the still graphic in the lead,
and I'll take an AR-15, and in a simultaneous 60 second firing match, I'll allow the shotgunner to fire as many times as s/he can.
And during those same 60 seconds, I'll fire the AR-15 as often as I can. Both gunners will be allowed to reload during the exhibition.

When the minute has fully elapsed, we can count the number of shots fired from each weapon.

And my wager:
In those 60 seconds I will with the AR-15 fire twice the number of rounds fired by the shotgun; and perhaps more than twice.

This topic is absurd.

Note:
My offer ONLY stands if the shotgunner covers all my expenses, including travel, hotel, meals, and all other costs.
 
well this is craptastic hyperbolistic bullshit. the AR 15 is a decent weapon, but it's strengths are only evident in a weapon masters hands.......and that is what can a marksman do with it at 500 yards...........

anything else is just fear based hysteria.

Now that you have read an article written by a DR. you've become an expert on ballistics?

What was the average distance these killers were from their victims? 15 to 25 feet? Maybe a few feet more?
Have you ever patterned a shotgun? If so, what choke was used? What # shot was used?
What gauge shotgun (20, 16, 12, 10) and length of chamber (2 3/4, 3, 3 1/2)? What was the barrel length?

Granted, the AR will fire more rounds, but then go count the number of holes in the target and then tell me
which one can be more lethal. Oh, and don't forget, you'll need to better aim as the distance gets greater.

CERTAINLY a 12 ga. slug or sabot can deliver more foot pounds to target than a .223.

What I've refuted is:

That is just vacant blather from start to finish. And even if there was a semblance of validity to the underlying intended point, the argument/s in the lead are so conspicuously bogus that the entire lead post is invalidated.

Even if true, irrelevant to classroom massacres. A sociopath with 180 rounds marches into a public school classroom and starts mowing people down could miss most of his targets multiple times, and still kill everyone in the room. That would be substantially more difficult to accomplish with an 1187.

If you had even a hint of knowledge of ballistics, you'd know at greater distances a shotgun slug loses both it's accuracy and energy because, well, gravity works.
