There is no such thing as a "responsible gun owner"; there are only degrees of negligence.
Bringing a gun into your home is an act of negligence. It's also adding to the supply of available guns for criminals to steal.
So you buy a gun to protect your home from criminals armed with guns they stole from homes.
If you can't see that as a cynical ploy for gun companies to sell more guns, then your moral compass is broken.
Not getting a vaccine puts other people at risk; people who can't get the vaccine because of allergies, etc.

Criminals get their guns from you "responsible gun owners"; either by losing them because you're careless, having them stolen because you're sloppy, or selling them to someone shady because you need a quick buck.
No gun "falls off a truck". Nearly all guns in the hands of criminals were stolen out of "responsible gun owners'" homes and cars.
