Trump’s Immigration Policies Are Actually Pretty Popular

You view yourself as an elitist. :palm:
Nope. Garden variety middle class. I could see where someone at the low end of the socioeconomic ladder would perceive me as such though. Like I said it must suck to view middle class as elite but I guess by comparison and your point of view it must be. How sad.

You make it sound so easy lol.

Even the Great Obama stubbed his toe on this issue. You have to pick between deporting families without due process or detaining them—for who knows how long, till they can be processed. In the meantime, they need housed, fed, medical care [is the wall starting to sound cheaper yet lol?].

Or just say F-it, and turn them loose in the country and cross your fingers that they will show up for their hearing?

It seems pretty easy to me. It only seems 'complex' for those who want to make it complex.

Which is cheaper, easier, and more practical:
1. Housing a family together.
2. Housing a family in separate locations.

You don't really need an abundance of grey matter to come up with the correct answer.

You sound like the typical Red Team/Blue Team partisan hack that can't get anything done. It's ALWAYS the 'other side' that are Obstructionists.

Democrats are obstructing on the wall.

Granted, there are some limp republicans as well. But congressional Democrats would rather have holes drilled in their knee caps than vote to fund the wall.

Why? Because the dirty little secret is the immigration *issue* is important for them and the wall would all but eliminate the issue. It gives them ammo to paint Republicans as Nazis. They don’t want to resolve it. Note how it got everyone on a different subject than the economy, progress with NK or the IG report.

The 'Wall' isn't the pressing PROBLEM right now, ... separating families is. YOU sound like you want to use the 'Wall' as a 'political tool'. If anyone is interested in NOT separating families, it seems easy enough to do.

Darth and I both agree we need a wall. What we disagree on is where it should be built. On the Mexican border where it can do no good or on the North side of the Ohio River where it can do some good.

Both are frightfully expensive and I don’t see where one would be significantly more cost effective than another.

Let's see, ... the ISSUE is 'separated families'. Your response is something about a Wall. How about I respond with a Spaceship to Mars? Would that solve the 'family separation' issue?

you should look at the numbers. The Repubs came close in the House to a reform package.
Then it would go to the Senate and die.

How many Dem votes would it get in either situation - try ZERO- remember da resistance?

Jack, you're really misinformed on this issue.

The 2,000 children were separated from human traffickers claiming to be their parents.

Some children were separated for a day while their parents were in court.

Now, what are you complaining about ... specifically?

If Congress wanted to resolve the 'separating families' issue, it could easily be done. But, like you see here, everybody wants to tack on MORE issues to ANY Bill.

I'll let you and Darth Square Dance together, round n' round.

Your type of thinking is why this issue just drags on and on.

Always the stop-gap measure that doesn’t address the root problem. You should get elected to Congress—you’d fit right in lol.

If these people would just stop showing up at the border hoping they can skirt our laws, we wouldn’t have the problem.

Sounds like we need a wall.

Why shouldn’t they? It’s our tax dollars too and why should our tax dollars be completely wasted on a boondoggle that couldn’t possibly work just to asuage the fears and resentments the lowest classes.

Here’s what you knuckle heads and your idiotic insular attitudes aren’t considering;

The Mexican Government for decades have cooperated with the US on migration. They have contributed significant military and police resources to mitigate illegal immigration into the US. Not only Mexican migrants but Mexico has stopped a tidal wave of migration from Central America to the US.

Now because of the incompetence of the Trump administration and it’s unilateral me first and anti Mexico hostile rhetoric the Mexicans are on the verge of saying “fuck the US.”. This is their problem. If they want to be assholes about it let them deal with it.

This is why this sort of redneck populism and unilateralism is just plain stupid. It does nothing to address the root cause of these migrations and they in fact make them worse while increasing levels of human suffering needlessly.

So the real truth is a wall would do nothing, solve nothing, would antagonize the situation and would be a waste of tax payer money and a colossal monument to stupidity.

ridiculous assertions that the wall will never work. They are used effectively all over the globe.

Mexico will not close it borders to illegals, and illegals seeking asylum are clearly doing so for economic reasons
-not a legal reason for asylum -or they would shelter in Mexico//who won't let them

how do we solve central America's drug wars? if you put up a wall it would stop a lot of smugglers

You must not like Kentucky. I know it's a joke, but did you forget about the bridges? Or do you actually mean flood walls?

Bull shit. History has proven time and time again they are a waste and don’t work.

Go to east Dayton, Middletown, Hamilton, West Cincinnati and see what they have done to those areas. No single immigrant group has caused more social ills in Ohio then the poor and uneducated migrants from the Appalachian regions of Kentucky West Virginia who refuse to assimilate and propagate their Hillbilly culture.

gawd will you do some research?
https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/...standard-practice-in-other-parts-of-the-world

India and Pakistan: The two nuclear powers, with 1.5 billion people between them, have fought four wars since 1947, and continue to face each other down in Kashmir, a territory both countries dispute. In order to prevent Pakistani terrorists from striking inside India, the Indian government built a series of fences and walls to keep Pakistani terrorists at bay. Had it not, it is quite possible that the two countries might be at war right now.

Morocco and Algeria: Morocco built a 1,700-mile system of berms, fences, and ditches to stop the Polisario Front, an Algerian-sponsored terrorist group, from infiltrating the Western Sahara. It took seven years to build, but the result was so effective that Algeria agreed to a cease-fire, ending the Western Sahara war that had raged since 1975.

Israel and the West Bank: The Israeli border wall — well, actually more of a fence in most places — remains hugely controversial because many journalists and United Nations officials condemn anything Israel does, no matter how much precedent exists outside Israel. But, Israel’s fence reduced terror attacks by more than 90 percent, something decades of diplomacy failed to do.

Cyprus: The irony of so many United Nations officials condemning Israel or Trump’s demands for a wall is that the United Nations itself built a wall dividing Cyprus in order to separate Turkish and Greek combatants. While Cyprus remains divided, the wall ended the fighting.

Northern Ireland: Against the backdrop of a decades-long terror campaign by the Irish Republican Army and Unionist violence, the British and government of Northern Ireland built several so-called “Peace Lines,” fences and walls up to 25 feet tall and sometimes running for miles to separate Protestant and Catholic neighborhoods.

Saudi Arabia and Yemen: While the Iranian-backed Houthi militia has launched missiles at Riyadh, why hasn’t it sent terrorists to conduct hit-and-run attacks in Saudi Arabia? The answer is easy. After a series of Yemeni attacks in the late 1990s, Saudi Arabia demarcated the border and built a 1,100-mile border wall.

Saudi Arabia and Iraq: After the Islamic State steamrolled through northern Iraq, Saudi Arabia scrambled to build a 600-mile border fence and ditch system stretching from Jordan to Kuwait. It worked.

Turkey and Syria: During the 1990s, the Syrian government supported the Kurdish insurgency inside Turkey. Turkey responded by reinforcing its border with fences and minefields. The result? Fifteen years of quiet. It was only after Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan cleared many of the mines and loosened restrictions that security declined in both countries. Today, as a result, Turkey is building a new, fortified wall stretching more than 500 miles.

Kenya and Somalia: Over the last two years, Kenya has made good on its promise to build a barrier along its 440-mile border. It may not look like much — as between Israel and the West Bank, it is more barbed wire fence than concrete wall — but Kenyan authorities have said it has reduced infiltrations by Somali terrorists.

Of course, not all countries utilize walls for security. Many others use walls and border fences to prevent illegal immigration.

India and Bangladesh: Beginning in the 1980s, India began construction on almost 1,800 miles along its border with its neighbor. While India justifies the fence in its efforts to curb illegal immigration, they have also cut down cross-border crime.

Spain and Morocco: Spain has long maintained two enclaves — Ceuta and Melilla — on the Morocco side of the Strait of Gibraltar. Both are surrounded by high fences to keep African migrants out of Spain and therefore the European Union.

Greece and Turkey: The land border between the two countries is little more than 100 miles, but this is marked by barbed wire fences and, in places, minefields. While the mines are a vestige of military conflicts between the two countries, the European Union has been fine with them remaining to deter illegal immigration from the Middle East into Europe.

Hungary and Serbia, Croatia: Hungary isn’t shy about justifying its border fence in its desire to prevent illegal immigration by those originating outside of Europe. Greece’s land border may be well-defended, but African and Middle Eastern migrants simply make the first leg of their journey by sea, before moving north through the Balkans. Other European states might tolerate such a flow; Hungary sees no need. After all, migrants and asylum-seekers are supposed to remain in their first country of entry, which land-locked Hungary never would be.
