End state funds to religious schools. People should be free to have religious schools if they choose and teach their kids whatever they choose (at their own expense).

I had never heard the "baby dinosaurs" story before. I had heard the creationist organization said claimed dinosaurs were on the ark. The Bible says 2 of each type of clean animal and 7 each of the unclean. The unclean were to feed the dinosaurs in their literature.

the only state funds that go to private schools now are funds that the courts have said cannot be withheld legally such as bus transportation and food programs.........

I don't agree. Some states have charter schools which are basically private schools funded by the state. Also, some states have voucher systems (FL) that allows parents to send their kids to the school of their choice and those schools receive state funds for those children. In many cases these schools are essentially free of any state regulations or standards.

if you can find an example of a religious charter school you let me know........vouchers are money given to parents, not schools....the courts have already established it is not a violation of the separation of church and state........feel free to try again if you find some facts that are relevant......

I did not say charter schools are religious schools. You stated "the only state funds that go to private schools now are funds that the courts have said cannot be withheld legally such as bus transportation and food programs.........." Charters schools are basically private schools that get state money.

I also did not say the vouchers violated the establishment clause. The money goes to the school. Even if the money goes to the parents first they give the money to the school meaning state money is going to religious schools through those vouchers. The schools operate largely through state funding.

So, state funds going to private schools are not limited to transportation and food programs. The vouchers are state funds that go to religious and private schools. I did not suggest they are unconstitutional and said nothing about their legality.

In Florida, the religious schools receive funds from private donors who then remove that dollar amount from their taxes. Thus, the state is funding those schools.

"The scholarships that private schools may use to purchase these academic materials are paid for either directly by the state or with tax credits - money diverted from the state budget by corporations that make scholarship donations and then write off an equivalent amount from their state tax bills. "

we were in fact discussing religious schools......do not pretend we weren't....and the courts have held that vouchers are paid to the parents and they are free to spend them at whatever school they choose.....get over it......

5 part test:

The program must have a valid secular purpose.
Aid must go to parents, not schools.
A broad class of beneficiaries must be covered.
The program must be neutral with respect to religion.
There must be adequate nonreligious options.

Looks like Florida fails that bolded one. Too bad nobody has challenged it.
