These are adults, they deal with other adults, politics, infighting, press, rumors, innuendo, 2-faced people in their own parties, opposing parties, national emergencies, etc. May was fine, it was a nice meeting for both.

I have low expectations. US/Russian relations are so bad just talking is a big step.

I'd like to see a commitment to arms control at least.

Hah! I expect warmer relations.

1. I'd like to see some kind of 'Crimea' agreement where that is put behind us. And at the same time come to a commitment that Russia doesn't have any kind of designs on the Baltic States.
2. Resolve the 'Syrian Civil War'. Give Assad the Western Part (west of the Euphrates) and give the Northern Federation (mainly the Kurds) the northeast, in a 'Federated' Syria.
3. Come up with a joint North Korea viewpoint (denuclearization).
4. Stop killing people with Nerve Agents.
5. Clearly explain that if Russia interferes in our Elections, the Congress isn't going to be lifting any sanctions. it WON'T be left up to the President.
6. Invite Putin to Mar-A-Lago for a round of golf.

breaking up europe and the EU is actually in American interests. If you compare our empire to the Roman empire the EU would be something like a wealthy province. Similar to Gaul or Syria perhaps. Those types of provinces tend to break away on their own given enough leeway. Weakening them keeps them as a part of the empire.
