Sure was easy to scan this thread looking for an intellectual discussion on the subject matter.
Took only a few moments to go through the 8 pages generated so far.
If we may proceed past the name-calling and insult contest, let us begin the meaningful discussion:
Humans have a problem. There are really too many of us for the planet to support. In our efforts to have nice lives, we are using up resources. There is no way it is even possible for every human on the planet to live in the lifestyle of Americans. And even among Americans, we have had to cut back and conserve. One of the most basic resources is water. There is only so much of it. We lack the capacity to use it freely. Everybody can't use all they want. We lack the capacity for that. Florida and California have stringent water use restrictions, as do many regions of the nation.
The more people we have, the more demand there is for water.
The obvious solution is to limit the number of people.
No, this doesn't mean anybody has to be killed or commit suicide. People die. We don't live forever. Time will reduce the number of humans if we let it. The obvious solution is birth control.
We need guidelines for limiting population expansion.
Some people are not going to understand/accept the need for this. This will be exacerbated by religion which tells people to go forth and multiply. Many feel it is their God given right to have as many children as they please. But it is irresponsible to the human race. Ironically, it is irresponsible to the new babies to bring them into this already over crowded world.
Religions were all conceived in an age when it was thought the world and the amount of resources was endless.
We now know that is not true. Religions need to be modified, modernized, to reflect what is now known.
It is not logical to live by a religion which commands a code of living based on out-dated knowledge, especially when it is clear that to continue to do so means our own annihilation.
Common sense and logic will not go away because people have more faith in religion than science.
But science is about reality.
We cannot change the physics of our situation.
Either we wise up and place more faith in science than the Lord, or we are screwed!
We can do this. The numbers don't lie.
We can all have a better life if we accept the math.
All we have to do is stop having so many babies and our condition will begin to improve.
The more of us there are, the smaller our individual allotments of resources will be. It's basic math.
The fewer of us there are, the better our lives can be.
We just need to wise up and look at the big picture.
The young people who have babies are not going to understand this. We are going to have to make international pacts and laws to limit population growth. It would be good to have negative population growth for a while, then level off at a number that we determine ourselves.
We can do this. We just have to get organized.
