A two part question for those considering Socialism

Rob Larrikin

Thunderstruck
Under the heading ‘Americans like socialism now’, socialist baby boomer Harold Meyerson wrote “Socialism is back. If you seek a culprit, blame capitalism.” - LA Times, July 19, 2018. He gloated about the rise of socialists like New York’s 28-year-old Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Bernie Sanders and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon.

According to the Daily Mail 44% of millennials said they would rather live in a socialist society than capitalist. Many current affair shows and talking heads are now discussing this rise in socialism, including the latest just yesterday, by Tucker Carlson. I have a question for Lefties and it comes in two parts:

Part 1): Can you name just one thing* in your home that is not there as a result of capitalism?

Part 2): Can you name just one modern, full time, wage-paying job that you could have today, if rich capitalists never existed?

*A thing is an object - not a living being

The 'Public School System' is a form of Socialism. Everybody chips in, whether you have 12 kids or you have 0 kids.
It's 'Free' to EVERY child in America,
The Teachers are employees of the State. They are paid with Public Funds.
The schools, the physical buildings and land, are owned and maintained by the State.

This is a classic example of 'Socialism'.

Some people in this country feel America should have a 'Public Health System' based on the model of the 'Public School System' ... like I do.

Right now, seems that Venezuela is an outlier

Sort of like how even though Haiti is a capitalist country, it is still a "shithole" as Trump refers to it

Now could it be because of capitalism or could it be because of the level of corruption there?

Remember this next time you pull Venezuela out of your ass while ignoring the 30 plus other countries that are doing just fine with universal healthcare

[h=1]Public support for socialism is up... because Republicans redefined the word "socialism".[/h]

https://www.rawstory.com/2018/08/paul-krugman-explains-support-socialism-growing-united-states/

And according to a recent poll by Gallup, more Democrats have a positive view of socialism (57 percent) than have a positive view of capitalism (47 percent).

...

Economist Paul Krugman argued on Twitter Wednesday that despite their dire warnings, conservatives have only themselves to blame for the popularity of socialism.

“It really is important to realize that Republicans have systematically identified the social safety net with socialism,” he wrote.

...

“So if you think Denmark looks pretty good, Republicans say you’re a socialist, and people start to think socialism looks pretty good too. If the GOP then pretends that support for ‘socialism’ means wanting government control of the means of production, that’s bait-and-switch,” Krugman writes. “I mean, I know that Trump and others have problems with geography, time zones, and all that, but Denmark is not the same country as Venezuela.”

One aspect of this dynamic that Krugman doesn’t mention is the conservative embrace of “capitalism.” Republicans have often tried to brand themselves as the defenders of capitalism — by which they mean a very limited, unequal, and often vicious form of capitalism. This branding can push people away from capitalism as much as it can push people toward socialism.

...

Whether these policies are called these “socialism,” “democratic socialism,” “social democracy” or some other label, they clearly garner a lot of enthusiasm. And if conservatives try to attack these policies by using “socialist” as an epithet against them, they’re likely to only increase support for socialism.

Any Reports on those Socialist bastards in Sweden, Norway, or Denmark?

yea how about their 50% tax rate, the government takes nearly half of all wages earned in Denmark for instance.
goofball

and their growth rate has been steadily headed down, so much so that all three of the countries you mention have been slowly moving to the right.
the wake up call is socialism as a rule is not going to hold up if you enjoy freedom to be as successful as your labor can take you.
Socialism does not work in a free society, period. redistribution of wealth only promotes government dependency, period.
Government dependence = eutopia is a fantasy reserved for looney tunes, such as yourself

any more stupid questions?

obviously you can read, google is your friend

I'm on Medicare.

I thought YOU were going to 'Government' Hospitals, and 'Government' paid Doctors and Nurses, and it was Free?

If what you say is True, it's surprising the Scandinavians aren't fleeing their miserable existence and coming HERE?

Part 1): Can you name just one thing* in your home that is not there as a result of capitalism?
As explained in OP, a ‘thing’ is not a living being.

Part 2): Can you name just one modern, full time, wage-paying job that you could have today, if rich capitalists never existed?
Dog Trainer

The question was about a modern, full time, wage-paying job that you could have today, if rich capitalists never existed. As a dog trainer you would need a variety of implements and tools, since you would not be employable if you stood in a field bare ass naked. These would include clothes, shoes, hat, gloves, and according to this page, a clicker, a target stick or spoon, portable mat, collar and harness, treats, a long line and barriers. All these are manufactured by private companies and corporations, transported by truck, train or ship and sold in retail shops or stores. The number of private companies involved, including the mining corporations needed to mine the raw materials, trees harvested for the wood, petroleum industries for plastic, and all the companies needed to make the machines used to mine, transport, package, etc., comes up to hundreds or even thousands. Don’t believe me? Take just one item – the dog collar – and let’s check out the long list of capitalist corporations:

This doesn't include all the companies you need to provide all the trucks, mining machines, tools etc. needed in all those industries, and so on. Without capitalism you would be standing in a field of weeds, naked, with dirty fingernails and an empty stomach. That won’t lead to a full time modern wage-paying job by any stretch of the imagination.

1) the fleas my cats bring in

2) "wage paying" turns your question into a circular game.

Rob. This is extremely impressive. I'm just about won over. But ...
... could you tell me how those Soviet bastards got that Sputnik thing up there?

You fools think the debate between capitalism v socialism is a zero sum game..... it’s not, every modern society is a blend, including the US.

part 1: love.

Part 2: That's a chicken or egg question.

A question for you.

Would there be any rich capitalist today if there were no proles?
