It's not a federal crime to lie to local PD; the penalties for lying to local PD vary depending on the jurisdiction and the prosecutor's discretion.

But in no regard is lying to a cop a felony.

So that's why the FBI needs to investigate.

I am on the side of having the FBI investigate TO SEE IF THEY CAN FIND ANYTHING TO SUPPORT HER VERSION...or something that might show her story to be false.

Why are you so focused on the "lying to the FBI" thing? I thought that the purpose of this investigation is to find out whether or not Judge Kavanaugh committed an attempted rape. Surely if a police department in the locality of the alleged crime proves that he did in fact attempt to rape this young woman, then I would think he has bigger issues than "lying to the FBI"

Because the FBI is the Conservatives' achilles' heel.

Lately, whenever Conservatives speak to the FBI they end up being caught in lies like Manafort, Papadopolous, Gates, and Flynn.

You know just as well as I do that there is no real penalty for lying to local PD. So that's why you want them to do the investigation, isn't it? Because lying to the local PD isn't a felony, but lying to the FBI is.

Actually there are real penalties for lying to the police department. Yes, it may not be a felony, but it isn't advisable

You seem to be more focused on lying to the FBI more than proving whether or not Kavanaugh raped Ford. Unless of course you have already determined that he did it and now it is just a matter of getting him to perjure himself?

And the FBI can absolutely investigate that. The only ones who are preventing them from doing so are the same people who want to rush Bretty's confirmation. Obviously, to protect Trump and the GOP from the inevitable conclusions of Mueller's investigation.

It wouldn't be a felony to lie to local PD.

Can you document this?

I had a TOP SECRET security clearance when I was in SAC...back in the 1950's. I had a BI performed on me by the FBI...and I think I was only 19 when I got it. I cannot imagine the checked only the two years prior when I was in service.



Oh...the congress will let us know when the "end of story" comes. YOU do not get to decide that.

The penalties depend on the jurisdiction, but in most cases, lying to local cops isn't prosecuted, and if the offender is caught doing so, the penalties are at the discretion of the DA pressing the charges.

That's not the case with the FBI; there is no discretion on penalties. You lie to them, you go to jail.

How could he possibly perjure himself if he's innocent?

Conservatives don't have a very good track record when it comes to being honest with law enforcement (Flynn, Gates, Manafort, Papadopolous).
