Hundreds of campaigners waving banners with slogans such as “I believe survivors” and “unfit to serve” staged a protest inside the atrium of the Hart Senate Office Building.

Mr Kavanaugh looks likely to confirmed to America’s top court after positive comments from two wavering lawmakers about an FBI report on accusations of sexual misconduct by the judge.

He has denied all allegations against him.

Republicans have today moved forward with plans for a key procedural vote tomorrow (Friday) before a final vote on Saturday.

If appointed, he would tip the Supreme Court in favour of conservatives.

The court has the final say on some of the most contentious issues in the US, including abortion and gun control.

Elections have consequences.

Our last election has finally allowed us to slip into something disgusting and embarrassing.

But...the morons of the right will get their way.

They have control of the White House; majority control of the House of Representatives and the Senate; majority control of the state governorships; majority control of the state houses...

...and they have been a royal failure at governing.

Now they will have control of the judiciary.

My guess is the failed governance will be even more apparent.

We are living the nightmare of 1930's Germany...and the American right reflects the enablers of Adolf Hitler.

Not just the rhino variety like Ryan, McConnell, McCain, Flake, etc. It would tip the tables in favor of all those rhino Repubs, AND real Repubs.

I distinctly remember Bill O'Reilly saying Obama's re-election would be the best thing that could happen to the right in the long run.

People like O'Reilly have to say something...it is their job. In my opinion, almost everything he says is bullshit.

The forces that went into all the elections you mentioned are many and varied. They include things we wouldn't even think of. To describe them the way O'Reilly did is, in effect, saying, "See me...ME...ME."

Odd how voting for change never brings any isn't it, predatory neoliberal economics and endless war are utterly bipartisan. And since the "two" parties work in tandem to subjugate the people, yeah, one administration begets the next. The Wall Street/donor/”job creator” class figured that out long ago.
