An aggrieved Trump digs in after pipe bomb scares

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump believes he is being unfairly linked to the pipe bombs delivered to frequent targets of his acrimonious rhetoric and has watched with disdain as the national conversation has shifted to his role in shaping the divisive political environment.

Rather than cooling off his tone, he is digging in, two people who spoke to him on Thursday said. Trump has no plans to claim any personal responsibility that he has contributed to the divisive climate surrounding the attempted attacks, the two people said. And his advisers have no plans to urge him to dial back his attacks on the media, a senior White House official said.

The President on Wednesday condemned the attempted bombings and called for Americans to "unify" and strive for civility before stressing that the media "has a responsibility to set a civil tone."

Trump assumes, correctly so, that his hard core base likes him better when he refuses to accept responsibility for things that he shares or wholly owns responsibility for.
 
For sure, he is pissed that all the supposed "issues" he has demagogued for the last two months has been pushed to page four, if he isn't front and center it rubs his ego the wrong way, especially when he is in campaign mode
 
It looks to me like, this close to the midterms if he acted just a wee bit Presidential he might swing some independents. But it seems he only thinks about his base.
 
Why should a country of 327 million people be bossed by one man anyway ? It's insane.

Good point, he can even read the teleprompters and still come off as Presidential saying the right things and win votes other than his base, but I don't think he can help himself, once in those gym rallies, his campaign mode takes over
