Amazon Picks New York City, Northern Virginia for Its HQ2 Locations

Did anyone think they would place it in poorly educated jesusland

Amazon is dividing the second headquarters evenly between New York’s Long Island City and Arlington County’s Crystal City neighborhoods, which are both located directly across from the major city centers. The company plans to evenly split the offices with as many as 25,000 employees.

While the D.C. area lacks New York’s cutting-edge culture, it is big, highly diverse and just maybe hip enough.

Long Island City, Queens, was a longtime industrial neighborhood that is experiencing a residential housing boom, with more than 16,000 new apartments built since 2006. It is the fastest-growing community in New York City.

Interesting your socialist friend Cortez tweeted out that there is outrage in the community over Queens being selected. Why would that be?

Translation: We were never really going to build a single facility with 50K workers in one place to begin with, but it sure was fun watching cities step and fetch.

New York bent over backwards for tax cuts and other benefits for Amazon, supposedly everything they are against. And Cortez is not celebrating that this will bring new jobs into her district but will cause gentrification. Mind boggling

Two of the most liberal cities in America.

Notice they avoided the places in jesusland or as the late columnist jimmy breslin called them the Low IQ states of America

And the unskilled jobs that left jesusland aren't coming back, such as textiles, rubber band manufacturing to name a few

Notice you can't respond to Cortez's tweet. You proclaim yourself a socialist so why are you celebrating the gentrification this will cause to poorer minorities in Queens?

If they pay enough it won't be a problem.

Creating good paying, above minimum wage jobs, and looking into the corrupt real estate market caused by people like donald dump...….is a great start to making America Great.

This confusing, a post on Amazon's picks is now centered on Cortez's? and gentrification?

I'll go out on a limb here but I think the poster's point was why they picked the areas they did and not other sections in the country

Not confusing at all. Guno proclaims to be a fan of hers and she represents the area in Queens and she says this is bad for her constituents. So maybe Bezos and Amazon have some racial animosity or are just anti poor people to pick this destination

Or, she is telling the truth, for those who don't get positions with Amazon it will present hardships, and they'll probably migrate to Statin Island or public housing, same dilemma most growing cities face.

Did you think NYC or the State was going to turn it down because it presented housing problems for a section of Queens?

I would never rule anything out because if it were Oakland it's possible they may turn it down but no I wouldn't expect NYC to turn it down. but her attitude isn't one of celebration for the opportunity it brings to people in the area it's one of regret. That's sad to me

I think that can be softened. Done correctly a rising tide can raise all ships.

So I was reading today there will be thousands of engineering jobs averaging $150K in salary coming to this location. We know engineers are generally well educated so these aren't jobs going to local poor residents. How would you envision this softening taking place for local residents?

They will place it where it will be

Much better

Reports of it vary. But the trend seems to be Bezos / Amazon got about a $Billion in tax adjustment as incentive for him to select NY / Long Island City.
I understand the influx in $Amazon $Cash may seem to benefit the local economy.
But is it worth the $price the government decision makers made, for the tax incentives?

Ditto for the other one.
