While many people in the media and scientific community claim the climate change science is settled, do the facts back that up? Derisively called "deniers," climate change skeptics continue to challenge the so-called conventional wisdom, asking "Is global warming a hoax? Is man-made global warming the dire threat environmentalists claim?"

Recent global warming agreements brokered by the U.N. seek steep reductions in world C02 output to slow the presumed warming of the earth's atmosphere, while also seeking alterations in the economy that would move energy sources away from fossil fuels toward renewable natural energy.

But a growing contingent of scientists and economists call into question the climate change dogma, saying that the temperature data show no clear recent warming and noting that the benefits of global warming, if it existed, might be greater than the costs. This split will define the political debate in the near term.

One of the strategdy of "deniers" is to create a false equivalence, a particular poster here does it often, employing a study or two challenging the consensus on climate change as if the evidence was equivalent to that supporting climate change. It is a fallacy

Australia has had a series of heatwaves over many years, sadly the media only sees the most recent and ignores the past. I can see why you want to reinforce your confirmation bias by believing that Australia is different from previous decades, even centuries, but the truth is far more nuanced and complex. But why should you believe the premier Australian newspaper, after all what the fuck do they know?

The death rate is the number of deaths per head of population in the country at that time, and was consistently, significantly higher between 1890 and 1939 than for any period before or since.

Literally the only three heat waves your link talks about were in 1895-6 (which your link says the entire planet faced, not just Australia), 1939, and 2008. That's it.

2008 is the year the record heat waves started happening with more regularity and now they shatter heat records every year.

What you really meant to say was that from 1890 and 1939, Australia experienced 2 heat waves...one of which was global (1896).

So you used sophistry to pretend that a series of heat waves have hit Australia over many years.

But the part you leave out is that by "series" you meant two, and by "over many years" you meant 50.

What growing contingent of scientists? Dentists? It certainly isn't any scientist that actually studies climate.

The most vocal scientist, Willie Soon, has been accused of fraud for failing to reveal the funding for his research. There really is no one else out there since Fred Singer turned 90 a few years ago.

That is like arguing that the graph of the number of deaths from auto accidents proves there are fewer cars on the road.
