The point, IMO, is that it's ridiculous to claim that incidents from over 150 years ago have any immediate bearing on politics today. Yet that's the card conservatives always play when it comes to today's Democratic party.

Why is it wrong for Hirono to question the guy about his anti-abortion beliefs when they are applicable to his judgeship?
