Yes, to match how the Republicans at the 2016 RNC trotted out example after example of people who started with nothing and worked hard their whole lives,,, - and still ended up with nothing because the work they did was all done at starvation wages for rich guys who never gave them a chance to move up.
Tell me. How do you expect ending government assistance programs altogether - to produce a better result at fighting poverty than the Great Society programs have? Or is that not the point. Perhaps it is just to lower taxes at all cost, and don't worry about the consequences. That's really it, isn't it.

Government assistance programs are not meant to equate the wealth and accomplishments of true success - only to save those who have been unable to even earn a minimal modicum of lifestyle from absolute destitution.
Why try? Are you kidding yourself? The reason to try is to rise above mere sustenance and build something worth having!
Any conservatives who think being on the dole is a totally cushy bed of roses - are welcome to give away everything including their credit rating; and try to survive on the dole. That would snap some heads back into place and silence those voices of scorn.
